I've been thinking of recording some great moments and battles as video files but I have no experience in the video encoding field so I need some help.

What would be the most desirable application to record video (with sound), with not a lot of knowledge in the field? I mean, I can burn ISOs and MDFs using alcohol or convert APE into mp3's, but for videos I am clueless.

I've head of either Fraps or Vegas would work but before using any money (Im quite serious), I'd like to hear what would work the best in terms of consuming less time and is simpler to record/edit.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that FRAPS would work the best, but don't take my word for it. It is pretty much universal and *should* work with M2TW

I used fraps, and found it terrible quality. I gave up recording after that.

Thanks for the answers, I'll try with fraps at first...

I've used fraps, made a movie about me besieging york. was quite fun :) The bad quality comes when you have to compress the files, cous when you catch video it takes up hundreds of megabytes for just 1 minute, so it's quite self-explanitory that the quality is bad after that. However the pure fraps catching is good.

Here's an example of a finnished product after frapsing and compressing, remember this one takes *very* little computer space, so the quality is quite bad. You don't have to compress as much as I've done here: (EVE online clip, not m2tw :P but you get the idea)

PS: those are done with the free verision of fraps, only allows you to catch a video stream 30 secs at a time, but unlimited times
