Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted here, but I had a peculiar idea the other that I just HAD to write down. That evolved into this short story. I hope you enjoy it, and critisize mercilessly. I need some style pointers, i had an idea of what to write but i don't know if i managed to capture it on paper properly...

Microphone:

I’m deaf from the cheers and the clapping. I’ve been blinded by lights, pyrotechnics and white smiles. So many years suffering symphonies, encouraging those who try emulating birds. Through me, many times filtered, the sound, crisp and clear, would reach your ears and souls.

Him. This is who I have been hoping for. The man who might make all this torment worth having.

So many times I have been whispered into about the moon. Someone happily called for silence. They played guitars; they broke their drums, hearts and vocal cords. And I amplified and strengthened.

On the lows, his voice is guttural, on the high notes – sharp as a blade. He will show them what he can do. We will show them together.

He sings. Panting with the effort. He is tired like a soldier on a forced march. I stretch my flexible neck towards a face golden with sweat.

But no! Wait! What you are doing? What are you singing? Rest, you must be tired. This is not real, it can’t be! I’m hallucinating. Audience, tell him to stop! It’s all useless, there is no miracle. I had such hopes for him, and he is just like the others. I can barely stand, I’m shaking. With his voice he’s pouring poison into my electronic throat.

So many times I have been whispered into about the moon! So many times been happily called into for silence! They played guitars, they broke their drums and hearts and vocal cords! And I amplified and strengthened!

They can point fingers at me, I don’t care. I can’t go against myself. My mission is to amplify. I struggled, I hurt, but I amplified his lies. I complained, I cringed in pain and loudspeakers screamed. He nervously grabbed my neck with his palm. He turned me away, silenced me, killed me. Substituted me for another.

This other one will take it and suffer in silence. He’s been screwed on to my old neck. It happens every time. We are always replaced as soon as our scruples get in the way of their lies.

I was lying in the box. It was dark and very tight. There were three of us, another microphone, a tuner and I. They told me he was very happy with my replacement. All I could do is smile.
