Hi EB Team :smiely:
It seems "Arteshtâr-î Kardakân" units only carry one weapon (one spear each) with themselves ?! While in their description and also in their model ,They also carry a long eastern sword ! So shouldn't they have two weapons (one spear and one sword) instead of just one spear???

Thanks

I think this is a bug that nobody can fix. Ever since vanilla RTW certain units which have spear as primary weapon and sword as secondary have had problems switching between them. Phalanx units don't seem to have a problem switching, but almost all non-phalanx, spear-wielding units that should have sword as secondary weapon do not switch to it when you alt-right click on the enemy.

Unfortunately, it is true that we cannot fix this; At least not now. We originally intended for this unit to be a special kind of hoplite where we either wanted to use Acinaces or a long, straight sword as a secondary weapon. This appears however to be problematic. There are more important priorities with them, such as assigning an overhand animation to them.

TPC & Dayve thank you that clarified it  I was not aware of this issue as I've never played extensively with hoplites (They were usually my opponent).

A model question . Whats up with how hoplites hold there spears ? I've seen other mods do over hand spears and they don't have the spear being upside down in the ground thing going on .

I love EB and all, but I found that I often wonder about that myself...

Eh, by what I've tried of it the Kardakas work just fine if you add a secondary fs_swordsman animation and stats for shortsword for them. Basically turns them into a lite version of those Armenian royal guard infantry, or the Syracusan hoplites.

The problem is that they currently use the under-hand animation (They are supposed to replicate hoplite tactics, thus over-hand thrusts are more preferrable), and it is known that giving any secondary weapon in combination would cause problems.

Uh... the Babylonian spear-and-mace guys and those Hai royal guards with their spear-and-sword combo use underhand spears already. Have used as far as I've seen them in the game. You mean there are more problems involved than the usual "weapon swap" thing all double-armed infantry have to live with ?

Probably. I don't know, underhand-animations seem to work just fine in combination with secondary weaponry, but I read somewhere that there were issues swapping weapons for hoplite-type units with the overhand-animation. If it is possible to fix, I don't know, all I do know is that it has caused a lot of headache in the internal forums.

Lessee... that'd cover around all the high-end Celtic infantry as well as the Hypaspistai-style Hellenistic foot guards then. But don't those work more or less as intented these days, with the "spear compensation bonus" added to the spears to keep the weapon-swap thing from nerfing their melee prowess against infantry ?

Yeah, we can do two weapons and the overhand animation.

:sweatdrop:

Well, no one would be happier than I to have these guys equipped in the way they were intended to from the beginning. I thought the concessions we had to make were of technical nature, relative to difficulties in alt-switching primary and secondary weapons, but hell what do I know about it

I always imagine myself as Harad when I use them . I call them Spearmen of the Serpent . I call the uber parthian cataphracts the serpent black .
