What is the connection between the Knights Templar and Baphomet?

The templars were accused of heresy and satan worship... this is how the order was brought down. Although the Templars did have many strange and occult rites, modern historicans today generally attribute the whoel affair to the French King's desire to bolster the bankrupt French treasury with the significant wealth and holdings of the Templars.

I understand that they were able to get this information only though the use of torture...But I find it odd that they talk about a head that the Templar's worshiped Baphomet (there is usually some truth to every myth) .... Some even said that they may have had a head... and historians I believe have even stated that it could have been or at least believed to be the head of either John the Baptist of even Jesus . I would like to know if anyone has any information on the worship of a head by the Templar's?
