Hi MaddenKhan2,
Perhaps this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77223) and this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=94512) will interest you.

In my opinion M:TW's immersion and depth went unmatched in the later titles. The features are certainly better developed than in M2:TW or R:TW - civil wars are empire wide rather than local, treason and plots can be more clearly managed and defined, while the AI is almost ingenious.

The tactics on the battle map are also superior - primarily because the more detailed maps allow a wide variety tactics to be utilised upon them. Balancing also assists in this - although there are a few units which beat everything, these are exceedingly expensive which counteracts their problems. Other than that though, all units have a clearly defined purpose - spearmen kill cavalry, cavalry kill infantry and missile units, missile units kill slow units, while infantry batter spearmen. In addition, battles are also slower, providing more time for you, and the AI, to make your manoeuvres and apply your strategies.

On the downside, the graphics are, in a way, showing their age. In an other way, they do actually look better - M:TW zoomed out looks much more graphically rich and realistic than R:TW at least. Also, the game is slightly less accessible to an RTS player, and the controls are clumpier, although this problem goes away once you have adapted to it.

Hope this is useful, cheers!

BTW, I don't advise a purchase if you have an ATi Graphics Card with any version of Windows Vista, or a card which is a member of Nvidia Geforce 8 family. There are issues which prevent M:TW working if either of these circumstances are met.

It was amazing for when it came out. You really can't put it against the new games because the graphics are so much better. I was addicted to MTW.

Hey all,

Is the First MTW any good?

Yes.

Its campaign and tactical depth is superior to all other TW titles. Just bear in mind it'll look dated now.

Cool. I Heard good things about MTW, but wanted to check here for more good reviews before I buy it

Since I love playing Mods (Thank you for the RTR and EB Mods for Rome :beam: ), What are good Mods For MTW? I hear Pike&Musket?

Hi {BHC}KingWarman888,

BKB Supermod.. Don't Think I heard of that eiher lol. What Time-Span is it in??BKB's Super Mod is comparable to VikingHorde's XL - it, like XL, expands the main campaign through the addition of new units, factions and buildings. You can read more about this modification here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=30858).

Hope this information is useful, cheers!

BTW, MaddenKhan2, if you want to play the wide variety of M:TW modification, the Viking Invasion expansion pack is an essential - very few mods can work without it. You can either buy this separately, or purchase the Battle Collection or the Gold Edition, which already have it included.

Hi MTW VÌ is MUCH better than RTW and MTW2.

The reasons:

1. The game play is much better because the battle simulator is more complex than in mtw2 and rtw. In mtw2 they so many features are gone or not working. The balance of mtw 1 is much better

2. The gaphics, yes in my opinion it is much better too because you have a better overview on the battlefield. In mtw2 if you zoomed out, the graphics is very blurry. The reason why they implemented a zoom option lol

3. The Multiplayer, the only mode I play is much more fun. No lag, many maps and much more options than mtw2. MTW2 is produced for the masses to sell much. They kept all simple. Less options, worst balance, a really big disappointment.

I played 5000+ battle MTW VI in multiplayer. MTW2 I sold after 2 month.

I don't want you give you an answer except:

It's not on my computer. If it was, by the end of the year I would be thrown out of school due to disastrous school grades.

MTW VI MP pretty good then Di3Hard?Generally, M:TW/S:TW's MP was better optimised for performance than M2:TW/R:TW's. In addition, I also am lead to believe that there were more detailed ranking and ladder systems, which were removed in the later games.

From what I can see, the only problem with M:TW's MP is the size of its community. Although a group of dedicated hardcore players still play on, quite alot of people have either left, or have moved on to the later games.

On the other hand, though, smaller communities often do feel more friendly and fuzzy, so online play probably is slightly more personal that with the newer games. If you require any more details on M:TW MP feel free to ask in this forum (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=31).

I have to say that I'm not too keen on MTW, but I do like VI. It's purely a personal preference thing; I'm a Saxon-addict, y'see. Haven't played MTW2 so I wouldn't know how it compares. I'd pick RTW over vanilla MTW anyday, though.
