Point of no return in diplomacy

After having finished my 5th game I have come to the conclusion that there exists a point of no return in the game, where all the other nations will declare war on you. It usually happens if you are large and start invading one of the other nations. One by one the other nations will declare war on you and it will become impossible to sign a cease fire (probably because they are start allying against you)

It is slightly ennoying because I enjoy peaceful coexistence (with some light aggression) but this total war situation usually only leaves me one option: conquer the whole map.

So, is there a way to have the other nations like you more (my influence was 9 btw) once you become large?

Actually it makes kind of sense. You have one big power in the world that has demonstrated in the past its willingness to invade other countries (even in self-defence) and hold their territories. The rest of the powers realize that the only way to stop the big power is to band together and wage war against the big power, or simply roll over and die. Thus it makes perfect sense that everyone would gang up on you. I would if I were the smaller nations http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I have to agree, I would like to see a little more diplomacy... or maybe even a path of peace for those democrats out there.

Yup, it happen to me where everyone attack me at once!

I just attacked the Turks as the Egyptians and nobody would ally with me. I attacked the Byzantines next and they wouldn't accept a ceasefire even after I reduced them to the three islands. The French declared a crusade against me sometime after the Byzantines and I initially went to war. They got stuck in Castile because of the Almohads in Cordoba but the French refused to end the ceasefire.

I had the largest armies and territories yet my influence is only around 3-5.
