How do you unlock other factions?

I see Scot, Welsh, Rusian, Irish etc in the guides section but they aren't in the game how do I access theM? THanks

The Scots/Irish/Vikings/Saxons/Northumbrians/Welsh and Picts are all factions in Viking Invasion. They do not need 'unlocking' as such, as they are not in the original MTW.

However, it is possible (I believe) to unlock certain factions which appear later on, The Golden Horde, Burgundians and Swiss. There could be some more but I rarely play the game that long!

I can't say I even have the game yet, but I think, Insane Man, that he is talking about the XL mod guides.

In which case, Icy Dog, I recommend you buy or find Viking Invasion, and whence you have it in your possession, download the XL mod.
It will give you, if I observe honestly, over 30 factions to conquer and vassalize.

Nice to see some activity here at the weekend!

The unlockable idea doesn t really apply to MTW + VI. The Welsh, Scottish and Irish are all playable in the VI expansion of the original MTW , but on a new enlarged map of Britain and Norway/Sweden.

Some factions become "available"at a later date eg 1205 and you can play them just by choosing the HIGH or Late period.

XL (Viking Horde) and other mods have also "unlocked "factions so that they are available.

i have MTW VI gold, but still have no access to these factions do i need to play VI through to the campaign game or something.

Hi Youngie, welcome to the Org - with VI you can select the Viking Invasion scenario from the "Start new campaign" screen. It's not like RTW where you have to do one campaign before anything else, you can start wherever you like - Viking, Early, High or Late (although it is a good idea to run through the tutorial if you're trying it for the first time :bow: )

Thanks for that. But my post wasnt very clear let me reiterate. Can you play as irish or scots in the late period or are certain factions stuck in the VI campaign.

I may be new to the forum, but by no means new to MTW, or and of the TW series. As i am sure you would one day learn if we ever met in battle, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the mods though.
