View Full Version : Help with upcomming Hayasdan AAR.
Greetings fellow EB players/supporters/developers.
After having lurked around on these forums, and ofcourse played the divine-sent EB, for some months I thought I'd finally make my atempt on actually joining the community and the fanbase .
I was also thinking about writing my very first AAR, playing the Hayasdan faction. The absolute coolest faction out there, seeing as I've always been a fan of everything "Persian" (Before EB I did'nt knew all that much about ancient history, but not only is EB a good game, it teaches history to a certain degree aswell, and certainly got me interested in it, wich is something you developers should take pride in) and the opportunity to forge a "new" great Persian empire is like a dream come true for me. Anyway, I had a couple of questions about the Hayasdan faction that would greatly help me writing my AAR (Prolouge almost done, will post as soon as I get some clarification on my questions, will post it anyway ofcourse).
First off; The spy and diplomat that Hayasdan start out with are both named Yervanduni, wich also is the name of the Arkah and his family. I wonder, are the diplomat and spy connected to the Royal family? Cousin, distant relative etc? Or do they just share the last name as a sort of indication that they serve the Yervandunis?
Second; In the faction selection menu the faction is called "Hayasdan", wich also is the region in wich they start out from scratch. But when holding the mouse cursor over characters and cities on the strategic map it's suddenly "Hai" and "Haikakan", so I was wondering what the Hayasdan faction would call themself. Would they refer to themself as "The Haikakan", "The kingdom of Hayasdan" or simply "The Hai".
As I said, answers would help my AAR become so much more interesting/better from a story-telling perspective and I look forward to any help I can get.
Thank you all for your help in advance, and well met!

Its great that you want to start an AAR with Armenia, but I dont know what you mean by "Persian" even though there defenitly are cultural and administrative similarites, Armenians are an entirely diffrent ethnic group with a diffrent language, and culture.
now to answer your questions:
Hai means Armenian Hayasdan means Armenia. Hai comes from Haik the semi-legendary Patriarch of Armenians. The story goes that he and his highland tribesmen were freedom loving people, and that Bel the king of Babylon was trying to rule over them. Haik was a gifted archer, and he slew Bel in battle. Armenia is derived from the Armina or Armen tribe which gave the people and the region the name that all non Armenians refer to.
Haikakan means Armenian. It means in Armenian in the sense of something being armenian. For example Armenian dance- Haikakan bar. Armenian wine-Haikakan gini
The issue with the spy and diplomat, It could be a possibility that they are related to the Yervanduni, also it could mean that they serve them. So either or is fine.
So to wrap it up. Armenia- Hayasdan Armenian/Armenians- Hai/Haier Armenian (as in something being Armenian such as Armenian dance, or Armenian wine) -Haikakan
Cool idea, hope evreything goes well with your campaign and AAR. I see that Artavazd has awnserd all your questions. And when can we expect to see the frist chapter coming out.

You'll just have to wait for AtB before you can have Persians.
I'm sorry artavazd, I see now that I was a bit vague about what I meant. I meant that before I played EB I was interested in history, but didn't knew very much about it, but I was a big fan of the whole "Persian" empire (Wich I now understand is divided into several different eras and epochs, ruling families/dynasties etc) and I'm glad that I can play a faction whose faction objectives is to rule the empire that the Achaemenid ruled before Megas Alexandros conquered it, and who "feels" and have alot of similarities with the old Achaemenid empire.
About when the AAR is comming, of that I am not sure. I'm currently reading up on details, gathering alot of info etc so that I can include alot of details to make the AAR more living. Sources as to where I can read more about the Orontid Dynasty etc would be greatly appreciated. But I'd dare say 2-3 weeks from now the first installment should be here. But dont hold me by that :laugh4:.

No need for an apology friend. I see what you mean. Good luck with your AAR :2thumbsup:

Thanks a bunch artavazd! Really appreciate your help! :beam: Also dug up this site here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=53211). Seems to have some interesting information, but dont know how up to date it is, but I think I'll use the "history" part of it and religion-part. Seems accurate enough, no?

My classmate had told me briefly about Haik's story back when we were... 14 I think.
So, when you use Armenian as a noun you say Hai; but for the adjective you go Haikakan, correct?
Then, would Armenian King be Haikakan Arqa? And How would you say Takavor of Kilikia (Medieval era)?
Sorry for hijacking the thread mates. ~D

It is kind of difficult to explain. Hai Arqah/Arkah means Armenian king, as in the king is Armenian. Haikakan Arqah/Arkah rougly translates to something like Armenian made king. if that makes sense??
When refering to people we use Hai. Armenian person= Hai mart Armenian woman= Hai kin
but for example Armenian kingdom= Haikakan Arkautsiun , Armenian wine= Haikakan gini
Arqah/ Arkah and Takavor/Tagavor both mean king. Takavor/Tagavor came about in the middle ages during the Bagratuni era. The word is a compound. Tak/Tag means crown so Takavor/tagavor translates to crown bearer which has the meaning of king.
So king of Kilikia if we are using Takavor/Tagavor would be Kilikiai Tagavor
