After undergoing the horendous mental toture of browsing these forums since before the relase of 1.0, but being unable to play eb myself, the time has finnaly come, funds have been made avalible and I am getting myself a new computer.

Since the release of 1.0, there have been (and very rightly so) alot of threads along the lines of "thank you eb team", however I think I can claim that mine is unique, because I am not thanking the EB team for EB (though that as well), I am thanking them for my lovely new computer. Yes, belive it or not, EB has been crucial in my campaign to persuade the family to cough up the requisite funds. So thank you very much eb team:2thumbsup:

Anyway what I also wanted to ask was: what are peoples experinces with EB and vista?

Second edditon, after it has been through the hands of my Texas proof readers:

Af'er unnergwine th' ho'enjus mental toture of browsin' these fo'ums on account o' befo'e th' relase of 1.0, but bein' unable t'play eb mahse'f, th' time has finnaly come, funds haf been made avalible an' ah's gittin' mahse'f a noo computer.

On account o' th' release of 1.0, thar haf been (an' mighty rightly so) alot of threads along th' lines of "thank yo' eb team", howevah ah reckon ah can claim thet mine is unique, on account o' ah's not thankin' th' EB team fo' EB (though thet as fine), ah's thankin' them fo' mah lovely noo computer. Yessuh, belive it o' not, EB has been crucial in mah campaign t'persuade th' fambly t'cough up th' requisite funds. So thank yo' mighty much eb team:2thumbsup:

Ennyway whut ah also wanted t'ax was: whut is varmintss experinces wif EB an' vista?

There are some people with Vista that cannot play EB. Teleklos Archelaou has a thread about it in the bug forum I think.

Some people have got problems. Some people like me can even run things on it back from the days software was designed for Windows 3.1. Some people compain about Vista when they don't actually know what the heck they are complaining about - others have brought up a couple of pitfalls I never knew of but do seem very valid to take notice of. And yet another class simply calls it Vista when they are in fact reporting GFX card issues.

My experience is, if you're blind and deaf and have only 3 fingers to type with then even then EB will still work. But others have if the other way around: if you're blind and deaf and have only 3 fingers to type then and only then will EB work.

Seriously, though: if you make sure to do a couple of other things (which you will need to install Internet connections anyways) such as turning off UAC & making sure you are admin on your own PC... Vista won't keep you from playing EB. Depending on your GFX card its drivers may though.

I've got it working now, but I often have ctd's that I am certain are a vista issue and not an EB one.

I'm running it with vista no problem. For the most part the problem relates to people who have had EB or RTW installed before, new installers shouldn't have any issues. The fundamental difference that effects EB and other mods between Vista and XP is the virtual store. Gotta make sure you clear it out. I think I've posted this 5 times now on this forum, but here we go again. If you are upgrading from a previous version of EB or RTW, the best thing you can do is make a copy of your installation directory in program files. I personally name mine "Europa Barbarorum." Then install to that directory. That should avoid much of the virtual store mess. The virtual store is a set of files modified by the user to system and core program files. Any changes written without admin rights goes there. E.g. map.rwm, preferences, and saved games will go there. Anything in the virtual store overrides the file on the main system. The virtual store is located in c:\user\(your user name)\AppData\local\VirtualStore. Another thing you can do is delete what ever you have in there before installing, but I'd make a backup just in case.
