I'm about to start a Makedonian campaign and I was doing some basic research. Ten minutes on yours truly, Wikipedia, yield some basic composition numbers from Alexanders campaign, that might be helpful to someone... anyway:
Battle of Chaeronea (338 BC)
22000 Infantry
2000 Cavalry
Battle of Issus (333BC)
22000 Hoplites
13000 Peltasts
5850 Cavalry
Battle of Granicus (334BC)
20000 Peltasts
22000 Hoplites
5000 Cavalry
Battle of Gaugamela (331BC)
9000 peltasts
31000 hoplites
7000 cavalry
Battle of the Hydaspes River (326BC)
34000 infantry
7000 cavalry
Battle of Ipsus (301BC)
45000 heavy infantry,
25000 light infantry,
10000 cavalry,
75 elephants
I also found out about the Sacred Band of Thebes. Definitely should be a US Marine equivalent :smash: :beam:
