I have been playing this game now in every minute I can spare (and some I could not, but hey) since I could buy it on Monday.

I restarted my first try as Spain. Let me tell you a little story the game told me, NONE of this is made up, I can proof it with screenshots.

Once upon a time there was a king of Spain, a true believer, a good king and the sword of faith in the west against the muslim horde. He fought many a great battle against the unbelievers, and with the help of his friend El Sid finally pushed them out of the Iberian peninsula. But this is not a story about military conquests, it is about family.

This king had two fine sons at first (no bad vices). While both were fairly good at economics, the younger one was just a genius on the battlefield as soon as he became of age to lead troops (8 stars from start). While the king somehow managed to find the time to sire 4 more sons, when he became old and it was time for him to reap his reward for his life of struggle in heaven, his oldest son finally became king, and at the same turn married the fair princess of the Holy Roman Empire.

But this was only the beginning.

The younger prince, still in line of succession as brother to the king, immediately dropped 3 points in loyalty. He also developed the "loves another nobleman's wife, -2 piety". Well, that alone would not have been noteworthy, seeing the crown he would never have now as long as his brother lived, and him being clearly superior in the field.
But his brother, the king, developed the vice "drunken" the same time his first son was born the next year. (Among other vices he developed over the years, all of them made him unfit to lead his troops, thus staying at home, leading to even more bad habits.)
Time went by, the king's son came to the age to proof himself, and he was quite capable (5 stars) (but never became general, since his uncle clearly surpassed him.)

Now, and here comes the last part of this story: the moment the king died, his oldest son took the crown, and my best general went out of the line of succession, only uncle to the king and of royal blood. But instead of loosing loyalty again, his loyalty went up 5 points !

Now this clearly leads me to a terrible suspicion: Is the newest king maybe a lot closer to his "uncle" than he ever was to his "father", because in truth he is HIS son ? Was the noble women the brave general fell in love with maybe the queen, his own brothers wife ?

Now this is something that would really interest me:
Can vices of several generals interact like that, or is this just coincidence ? If this is coded, I really am going to pay even more attention to some details, since I noticed this cool little family affair only by chance. Even if it is just random coincidence, what a great job the designers have made here ! This is so much fun !

They can...

I heard a story about a general that had Adultery, in Spain for a matter of fact http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif, after about twenty years the neighboring govenor declared war against him because he had found out about this. It was his wife.

So it is not unlikely that it was actually his son that became king.

BTW, Danish Crusades are true to history.

You may not care about war, but war cares about you!

Wow! if this level of detail is coded in...

perhaps his influence rose because the new king was better than the last?
i have seen loyalty soar and plummet with subseqent kings, i think influence and dread are factors
