Well hello Mr. New Assistant Moderator. ~:smoking:
I own several thousand shares of a (now defunct) mining company that my father bought for me when I was about seven. I'm holding on to them just in case time flows backwards and I can make a buck. Or maybe one day they'll kick back in a strike gold. Who knows?
Other than that, I buy lottery tickets like all the other shmoos.
*Oh yeah, about ten (fifteen?) years ago I got ripped off for $5K US buying some Ben & Jerry's stocks. I threw in my cash with two other guys to buy a block of 1500 shares and one of the guys and my 5k went "Poof!"

Some stocks, some mutual funds (no stock funds though - the funds are investing in bonds)

Hello Moderator Mr.Beirut:egypt:
Yea, My Grandpartents (grandfather is 88, 89 this month, grandmother is 83, you think they would sell the stocks by now... ), own almost 9,000 Dollars worth of AT&T Stock.
I am invested in several diversified risk mutual funds directly, as well as through both traditional and Roth IRA accounts in both my name and my wife's. I avoid individual stocks, as they are too prone to fluctuation which is unhealthy for long-term investment. Also, I am far too lazy and unknowledgable to do my own trading, so mutual funds are the quick and easy way to do things.
I'm curious, other then acknowledgement of who has them is there some other inquiry forthcoming regarding the subject?
Not trying to be a smart rear end, as I'd love to participate in a more indepth discussion on investments.

I'm in the same boat as you TinCow, I finally decided earlier this year to take some of my money out of CDs and put them in something a bit riskier so I went with mutal funds. I don't know too much about the whole deal but I know my mutual fund is focusing on buy overseas stocks which with the US $'s decline of the past few months seem to be doing alright. I actually should check in with the manager of it in a week or so. If it goes well I'll probably put some more of my money in another mutual fund next year.

Well I wasnt anticpating revealing how much I have in investments, more like content and so forth, but no big deal. I have a fair amount invested.
Anyway congrats on your mutual fund and remember to review it from time to time.
:medievalcheers:
i've been heavily invested in a mutual stock fund fior a little bit over a year. it's non-diversified high risk, extremely volatile. i know that i'm supposed to diversify and i'm not supposed to watch it every day and blah blah blah all that stuff but i'm young enough that i won't really learn my lesson unless i take a really huge hit in lossesand i'm young enough to recover from it. I don't invest in stocks for the same reasons as TinCow and i don't understand them as completely as i do mutual funds. if things continure to go well with this fund as it has so far, i plan on splitting the capital bewteen this one and another non-diversified one i've already selected in 2-3 years.

I don't have either. I think it's because my family do business very conservatively. Funds and Stocks can almost be considered gambling, because, well, you are taking a gamble aren't you?
from what i've seen, investors differentiate themselves from gambling by the amount of time spent waiting for the gamble/investment to mature. gambling usually takes hours to days whereas investing takes years to decades.
In all fairness though investors are able to make some decisions based on past performance of the company, general economic situation and other stuff. A gambler is just as likely/unlikely to win each time they draw a card, roll a die, or work the one armed bandit.
Well considering I worked in the trading room, it would be weird if I had'nt invested myself.
GRATS on ur promotion SOLDIER !
