View Full Version : No campaign in multiplayer?
I think it's Medieval's greatest limit...
I've never played MI, but I remember there is the multiplayer campaign option.. isn't there? Why has this option been removed in Medieval? I wished I could play a campaign with some friends of mine... sigh.
I wish they'll make an add-on or a patch with this very very important option... What do you think about?

There has never been a MP campaign. If there was and they took it away in MTW the offices would still be standing, the Poms on the forum are pretty feral you know. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
This would only be for a small part of the buyers of the series anyway or at least for any meaningful amount of time. They did try it but had a lot of problems if i remember correctly with the chance to kill say emissaries which is why they havent brought it out. But that was a while a go and it is not a good time to be trying to remember on a Friday night after a taxation exam.

the multiplayer campaign game is indeed on a lot folk's wish lists. it's even on CA's wish list, but like DP said, they ran into a LOT of problems with trying to get it work and had to abandon it or go broke. we're glad they took the former option.
if you sit down and work out what all is involved in a true multiplayer campaign you'll begin to see that it's not as easy as stating the wish for it. the developers have already informed us that there will be NO multi campaign game for mtw. we hope that mtw is such a HUGE success that they'll be able to re-consider this and devote the next 6 years to making one, but wouldnt hold my breath for now :) it really has become the holy grail of the game.
there is currently one work-around campaign being run by elmarko, but they've had to cut a number of corners and do a LOT of hand work to keep it running. magyar khan also had one going for a while, but i'm not sure his is still up and running. but, these were for we/mi, not mtw.
we may yet see some sort of approximation done by a player or even the dev guys, if we're lucky, but so far the word from CA is a pretty definite NO.

I would love to play a mp campaign but I can't imagine getting enough dedicated players to stick with it. The amount of time neccessary for just a sp campaign still amazes me.
I can see a lot of issues waiting for other guys' 30min fights to end. Even at 2-4 turns per night a MP game would take months. If there was a way to do strategic moves by email then meet up for the actual battles online I could see a game going for quite awhile.

However, it would be nice if they could do it for LAN users atleast. Half of my friends who have the game now, really wish we could all play together...I definately agree that there would be no logic in playing it over the net...but playing amongst frinds you know, that would be cool because atleast they would agree to playing a game that might last for several months. Whereas if it was with people you do not know over the net, many people would have to make comprimises due to time differences etc...
