View Full Version : a few questions... wont take long :D
just some quick questions... :)
i was wondering why illyroi thorakitai are no longer a part of the epieros roster?
also, why is the hetairoi cataphracts of bactria not included in the recruitment viewer?
lastly, is it possible to modify some part of EB so that it could be possible to build chaonion agema in, say, roma, and maybe massilia? just so they(the epirotes, i'm playing a campaign w/ them right now) have access to proper phalanxes once they get past the romans and get in touch with the gauls and lusotannan...
thanks! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Epeiros' victory conditions extend into Gaul or Iberia. In which case, why would you need to be producing phalangites over there in the first place?
Aside from that, the Italo-Gallic border should be on the fringes of your empire. Conceptually, it's supposed to be far enough from your power base that you aren't going to have a firm grip on it, i.e. won't be able to call upon your best "homeland" units for frequent service there, because it's a pain to transport them over there in the first place. You have to rely on weaker local auxiliaries, a small amount of factional troops (e.g. Thureophoroi produced in Massilia), and mercenaries to secure the borders--not the elite of the elite.
That said, I'm sure there is a way to modify the game to eliminate this element, but I don't know how.
Cheers.

The Illyrian Thorakitai was replaced with the regular Thorakitai (still looks the same), however Epiros seems to be lacking the recruitment zones. They will have regular Thorakitai in the places everone else gets Thorakitai in EB v1.1.
Hetairoi Kataphractoi are a (late) bodyguard unit and are not recruitable.
It is possible to change recruitment, but the coding for EB recruitment is quite complex. (It is in the export_descr_buildings.txt file.)
i usually don't follow the faction victory conditions Landwalker. meaning that the italo-gallic border is as likely to be on the fringes of my empire or in the middle of it. i asked if it was possible to change some kind of file so that i could modify where i could build these units because i play EB not to roleplay history but to roleplay what history would have been like had i dictated it... meaning i also wanted to somehow influence where they might have established institutions/organizations with which they could've built a diadochi-style army, as opposed to only being able to build these units where they were historically available... because, as i said, only being able to build these units where historically came from sometimes interferes with my desire to, in effect, "create" history, albeit in a very, very simplified(compared to the real world) module such as EB. i really want to enjoy EB to the fullest just like anybody here and i feel that knowing some knowledge such the one i requested would enrich the game and bring me closer to what i really want to do...
i am still waiting for a super-evolution, as i would like to say, of EB and RTW where it would be possible to NOT be able to conquer an entire region just because its most important city was captured(ex. if you conquer jerusalem you automatically get the whole of judaea), as well as being able to actually DICTATE your borders, meaning that the pre-set borders(like the ones in EB RTW or any other game like this for that matter) of the provinces don't dictate the borders of your empire, actually controlling the economy etc, actually being able to fully control the army(deciding on the equipment of that or the style of fighting of that), etc. however the game i'm fantasizing is really something that is just exactly that: fantasy (hahahaha =})... maybe forever and ever... *sigh*
anyway,
Thanks Landwalker! :)
Thanks MarcusAureliusAntoninus! :)

Just get into the Alps where you can raise the Mori Gaesum. There are not much weaker than your Agema.

Well, we can still wish, my friend.
