View Full Version : Where are the Ghulams???
Looking at the unit rosters... there aren't any more Ghulam Bodyguards anymore... Nor are there Sipahis of the Porte! Oh woe...
I thought Sipahis of the Porte was such a cool unit (and I loved the name...). Oh well...
Looks like the Turks are more focused on Horse Archer cavalry rather than Heavy Cavalry like Armenian HC or Khwarazmian... Yes, we can hire them as mercenaries but, just misses something...
Incidentally, does anyone know - If I hire mercenaries of any kind, how do I replenish/retrain depleted units?

Hi mir !
Ghullies make an appearance in M2:TW Kingdoms (the expansion).
SoP are KIA (dead forever unless you make us a mod which includes them... if you can do that do it please).
To "replenish" depleted merc cavalry put them into a recruitment que at a settlement where the merc is present and click retrain.
The Turks miss true heavy cavalry until Kapukulu show up, until then you can use mercs, Sipahi Lancers or Bodyguards.
You may be interested in the Broken Crescent mod. click this link for screens:

It focuses on cavalry and the Middle East.
SALUTE !
Hullo Sinan. Thanks for the answers!
Could you clarify this please? You said for re-training, I can replenish depleted merc units in a settlement where they are found. I thought mercs can only be hired in the field ie outside settlements? Or do you mean the region.
For example, if I hire Elephants in Arabia, I can only replenish their numbers in the city in that region?
Thanks for the Broken Crescent link. Will take a look.
You can replenish mercenaries in any settlement where there are same type of mercenaries currently available (i.e. you are using up the recruitment pool).
So if there are merc eles still available in Arbia then yes you can retrain them there. If not then no. In that case you have to find a region of yours where you have merc eles available to recruit (and put the merc eles in the recruitment que there).
Cheetah's on point. Do you understand how to retrain them Mir ?
I got a couple of screens for you from the BC mod:
Dismounted Ghulams
NB: Bow, Mace, Sword & Shield.

If I'm not mistaken, I think these have Bow, Lance, Sword & Shield.

WOW! Those are great screenshots, Sinan!
Yeah, I know how to retrain units. Just wanted to clarify what you said...
Man, that means waiting for quite some time to retrain most units... Oh well.
Back to Broken Crescent, this looks like a pretty brilliant effort. I've only galnced thru it and already it looks overwhelming. Am gonna take time to go thru it... But am excited about the mod tho!

Sinan, great screens. How do you get your camera to move so low?
I like that mod too, it's not released yet but my expectations are quite favorable. I'm quite sure it's going to be good, ofc we can only be sure when we play it.
I did't take those screens, they are from the screenshot thread at their forum at twcenter. I'm guessing the close ups are taken using the cinematic editor tool.
Great looking units! Definately a hint of eastern menance about them :charge:
A hint for getting your camera that low on the battlefield for unit close-up:
1/ get your unit on a gentle slope on the battlefield
2/ move the battle cam away from the unit downslope
3/ face the unit
4/ spin the camera as low as will go with mousewheel
5/ double-click the unit in question on roster
The camera will now rush across the battlefield to the unit and give a nice cinematic closeup :2thumbsup:
Good tips, Grog.
Here's another one from the BC forum, taken by Ahiga. lead researcher for BC). This is using the cinematic editor. This is a wicked screenshot, look at the soldier in the center.

BTW the screenshot thread on the BC forum is now 80 pages long, tons of these screens in there.
