Yes i know what WC do but they are made for vanilla, to impement in the Eaem mod such a thing would not very appropriate since it would change the game balance, have you tested the mod?

i didnt test your mod yet. Right now i am trying behaviour of alex exe Ai (i am happy that i was able to run it, at first problem with installing alex expansion... then problem with only exe solution and my state of my game directories), i am very pleased so far with AI. After finishing my getai campaign i plan to try your mod. Yes WC are for vanilla EB but modder like you shouldnt have prob with implementation -even i can understand how it works..( but really i dont want to push you in any way, i am admired with work of modders like you)

See thing is that WC for vanilla EB would hurt the mod since it targets each and every other oponent too soon. The mod context urges Factionsto pull most of their resources fighting the rebel kingdoms and only then other factions so that the campaigns last longer and that they be more chalenging.

As I already said - after my Getai on vanilla EB i will to try ALEXANDER mod(looking forward) and I will be able to compare.

I am not sure if the best solution(game and history wise) is that factions at first go for rebel stttlement and after then they go against each other. But i cant say before i try. Like i said beore about WC i like that factions tries and pushs mainly into regions of their historical interests. I think that WC helps to factions with consolidating of their empires. WC isnt unchangeable rule for AI for conquest targeting, it only highs the priority of WC regions, so factions are more likely to go there but not strictly focused(i played a few campaigns awith WCs and I can say that there is still a lot of variability of facton progress).
But again - I cant guess more before i try both.

You will notce a new Alx.exe feature that make WC no needed (We have or WC but we have decided not to place them), it is impemented in decr_start* is code ''ai_do_not_attack_faction''
which forces one faction not to attack listed ones until the listed one's attack it first. In these cases, armenia and Hellenic factions especially Macedon's - will not force the stepe's. Also it helps in so many things that need new thread but i hope this is enough.

First off, thanks for the great mod!

But, the performance level and the speed hasn't changed a bit whatsoever! Also. I'm able to play night fight via custom battle, but i'm unable to attempt a night fight in my campaign (Note! They are my old Vanilla EB saves, but they still run in ALEX).

Yes the old saves are playable but many files are changed so that you canot regain some traits easy and in some cases not at all. Descr_traits and desrc_start are the outmost important one, so if you want to experience all of Engine and Eaem mod you need to start over again unfortunately.

just a question.... the shield wall formation is by any modding change to be usable in alex.exe

The unit radius tweak is much more realistic, useful and easy to implement

Cool was kinda confused cos of the first post. Loving the engine, gonna try the big mod.

Okay has anyone else encountered this problem: I run the game successfully once (it crashed when I chose Hayasdan the second time) and then it says it cannot find the model for the baitaz?

Force Diplomacy is not compatible with our mod and will not be impemented.

And about Armenians, if you started successfully once, should not be problem to start 2 times :(

Yeah I figured out the problem, it appears to be a vista related issue. Love the mod though the long build times can be a drag.

I have found that the game seems to play similar to the vanilla but just kinda cooler. For example I started with Pontus, played exactly the same way as a vanilla game (though I did process_cq the governors mansion, 22 turns to build? OUCH). Had the same Pontus problems, noone around me liked me (the rebel provinces that is) and I had to quickly pickup my economy for even with the 40k starting (great idea btw) cash I was hemorrhaging cash. It was nice cos I actually was able to use my starting armies instead of disbanding half of it. The Hay game was fun too.

Thanks for the excellent work Maksimus I have been looking forward to playing this mod for quite some time. I have two questions/requests:

1.)Do you have a changelog or feature list handy?
2.)Any idea when you will be finished with the 1.2 version?

edit: ok I got a third one, is the Phalanx mod compatible with this?

First at all, not one mod is comatible with this one, since changes are vast and If you can think of any mini mod on the net that can alter Eb in a postive manner - something like that has either already implemented or is tweaked in a better way.

Now, to answer.

1) - no, and the changes are so vast that its comparable with a separate mod itself, do EAEM is just a mod of EB

2) - EB 12 is done, is on my hard drive for a month now finished and it has some very minor chages comaprable to EB 12 beta EAEM mod.

I am waithing LGK for a month now to reply my e-mails so we can finally close the EB adventure in our live's.

ok, it's been a while since I played Romr:TW and Europa Barbarorum. I have never used the Trivial script before and I don't quite understand how to edit the link to alex.exe.

this is what I did:

installed rome:tw, installed patches 1.3 and 1.5, installed alexander.

installed eb 1.1 and then eb 1.2. installed alexander engine files, installed official fixes to eb 1.2 (is this a problem? do they overwrite each other?).

so now what should I edit and how to use alex.exe instead of rtw.exe while playing?

Official fixes are implemented and yes they overwrite each other so you need to use ALX files as final files :square:

Same question, if I have the Alexander Expansion, do I need to download/implent any files, or is it enough to simply change the exe line?

Yes. Just changing the .exe will most likely not work at all.
And if it does work your FM's will never die of old age (because that's the way it was in vanilla Alex).


Edit: besides, this submod only is for people with the Alexander expansion in the first place...

Don't think you quite understand.

I have the Alexander Expansion.

And I want to play Vanilla EB. With the Alexander AI.

Do I need to do anything other than changing the exe?

You will need to use EB 12 files and change the target line to play vanilla EB with Alx.exe

ok so this is what I did:

install rome + patches (up to 1.5) + alexander.

install eb 1.1 and 1.2.

install alexander files (from the first part of the first post in this thread) + official eb 1.2 fixes (checked, they don't overwrite any of the alexander.exe files from the first post in the thread)

modify the exe line in ebconfig.xml from rometw.exe to rometw-alx.exe etc etc (found the correct line around page 35 of this thread, only the line without " worked for me).

started the game and it hasn't given me problems so far (played around 30 turns so far in a campaign), it starts with alex.exe and generals die of old age (my faction leader did after a few years).

hope it can help others.

Official eb 1.2 fixes are included in Alx.exe files both the *exe only and the complete mod files, pls do no overwrite Alx files with the official eb 1.2 fixes files.

I want to play EB 1.2 with alex.exe, I have two questions:

1) Do I only have to download/copy the EB/data folder from one of the two links below of the red EB 12 and switch the command line or do I have to do everything as written in the "step-by-step start"?

2) How do I get alex.exe to work with the trivial script? Basically what I want is that there's a single player and a multi player shortcut and when I click i, it starts EB using alex.exe. (Ugg, I think my last sentence sounded a bit retarded...)

I enjoy playing EB on alex.exe so I would very much appreciate if you could offer a short explanation of your hard work (and that of the others you listed--must be a pretty big project with all those contributions!)

But in general,

This mod is an overhaul. A major repair, renovation, or revision. With idea to overtake the veterans of RTW. Changes are massive and include game balance, units and cultural features. Many factions will eb able to build some of the enemy factional units if they get a hold of some parts of the land.

You really need to test it. I am counting on players descriptions which many gave in this thread already

ok umm cant find anythng from the eb fixes about some skeleton fs_gladius ....:dizzy2:

edit: ok looking through old post version 8 something have some sort of problem buut im sure that the eb i have is 1.2 since theinstaller says 1.2 ...anyway it seems that deleting the line fsgladius from DMB might make those unit look wierd in battle.... idk wat to do lol

done all that even deleted the whole folder to get rid of the other mods still not working

ok maybe wrong installation just making sure the instalation of EAEM is directed to RTW folder right? or i s it EB folder? cos i chechked its there its just the pc not reading that its there

edit ok found that the 'noalexander' is not in the shortcut, now when I get to chose a faction it goes back to the previous menu and then now I cannot click on anything

I like the way the romans could blitz those epirotes out of italy after a few turns, anyway was wondering how could i play this in windowed mode i tried putting the -ne like this RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -ne -noalexander but its not working ??? :help:

Alot of people have been asking me the same question, but I cannot give the full list of changes.

This mod is epic overhaul of EB in a possitive EB pattern, with respect to the developers. I think you should try and play it since it will take you to new limits.

I am hopping that player impression will be the final mark of the mod description :D

Hey i think i have a bug here. I just started a new campaign as the Romani, and two of the starting govenors (Roma and Capua) have been labled "Imposters". Any ideas why this might be or how i can fix it?

its a generic error, not the mod part. Try to reinstall the game pls
If you check EDU and DMB files, there is no such unit.
And try using Single Player *exe pls, not just modify the Trivia exe. Than tell us what you got pls :)

Well I tried the mod. On the good side, the gameplay is a lot more fun. On the bad side, the game is a lot less historically accurate.

We have had historian opinions. I am glad you like the fun do.
Most overhaul was the overal developed world. Which EB team left undeveloped in purpose so that it would be more fun to develop it - therefore they left it unhistorical intentionally.
I belive that eaem is not in colision with history.

I would like to ask if it is possible to install your big mod over recent EB instalation with engine files. No another tweaks beside alex engine and are present on my recent EB 1.2 instal.

And what about modified formation files compatibility with your EAEM?

EAEM has DV formations. If you want to use EAEM you can just install it on top of your engine files and all will be fine :yes:

Followed all steps except upgrading rtw to version 1.5; I have RTW Gold so it won't let you.

After installing EAEM, it takea a while but eventually loads to the meu screen. However, I can never move to a customer battle or start campaign. When I click EB Main Campaign I get the message "Please select item from the list". I've uninstalled RTW from scrtch in resintalled in a different directory. This has now happened to me twice.

Any ideas?

EAEM is designed to be installed in a directory where RTW is considering that EB data folder is inside of RTW folder.

I think it may also be a prob of target line. Try target line pls. Use Eb single player shortcut and just target ALX.exe as mentioned in the first post. Pls check the frist post again since I have noticed that ppl here do automatic 'classic' RTW.exe style shortcut change that is not good for ALX.exe

I appear to be having the same trouble you did, regarding not being able to get past the menu screen. How did you fix this? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch. My alex eb icon reads as "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander"

But, form the starting turns, im watching how the other factions dont attack themshelves, even if an enemy army is adjacent :wall: . I dont kmow if i make a bad installation, or this is supposed to be like that.

there are only 'town keeper' armies that dont move coz they need to enable you more difficulty when you take important key settlements of capitols :grin:

Im playing for 10 years now, and i can say now that enemy armys are camping around her cities :dizzy2:

It seems that they cannot exit their province to attack. It doesnt attack rebel armies and rebel provinces.

In other hand, my family members have many sons, but they dont have their surnames, the names are the names of the starting generals :sweatdrop:

I need to ask if anyone else has same problem. Also you need to play a bit more than 10 years to see much of a change.. are you saying there there is not one single war in 10 years? that factions are not killing each other?

I'd like to ask for some help.

I was a RTR fan for a long time and didn't know much about EB till yesterday when I reinstalled RTW to get back to old memories and gave this mod a try. As I saw your improved Alexander version I downloaded and succesfully installed the full verson of the mod with the EAEM exe and started up with the Sakas after getting bloody defeated with other factions.
After fighting the rebels I came upon a Seleucid city with a general in it and went to siege it. When I load up for the assault I get the following error: missing texture eb/data/models-unit/textures/Hetairoi Kataphraktoi 256.psd
I tried to reinstall both EB and EAEM, but still the error is still there. All other battles went swift without any problems, but it looks like the seleucid general's unit is somehow missing. Could you please upload that file or tell me how I can solve this problem?

Sorry if this was asked before but I looked around in the thread and downloaded the fixes, still I got none wiser.

and btw there is no textures in DMB named /Hetairoi_Kataphraktoi 256.psd it is probably a generic error, try either reinstalling RTW or make a file ''Hetairoi Kataphraktoi 256.psd'' and place it in the ''eb/data/models-unit/textures/'' that should fix generic error.

I have opened your save game and I have found out that you dont have 'open map'. You said that Not one faction wins teritories and advances in your campaign. But, your map is gray.

There is a console command that makes fog of war gone. toggle_fow

This command makes whole map visible.

By the way, when I had an AI sally from the fort they never moved while the battle lasted. I always have to quit and then we get a draw. They just stand they like if they were waiting for me to attack. Can this be becouse of the spy who opened the gates? Maybe they think I will attack them first?

Im playing awesome battles vs hiero and greek rebels.

The traitors of region fight me with the rebel army of messana, a battle of 6000 vs 6000 lol.
After, with Cartaginians and then Hiero and the garrison. Absolutly awesome battles Maksimus, im amusing as a child. The sensation of roleplay is enormous.

But i think that enemy faction must be more agressive. Im at war with aedui and their armys dont invade my territories, only fight my armies when im in their province. With Karthadast the same, in the fought of sicily, they only attack me when my armies whre in her province, not in messana or siracusa.

And, just to say that I dont understand why pontus dont have a blacksmith (17 turns:sweatdrop:), in my campaign I had to take seleucid cities (really easily) in anatolie in order to get a blacksmith, but it is no more question to go take antioch...so I think that the pontus campaign is not well balanced bcs now its really easy to take selucide cities in turky...may be army less numerous but with a blacksmith in the capital...

Well, I can't say that i'm having the same problems with AI. I think the reason why the Ai isn't moving is because the Eleutheroi are so strong, and they don't have the armies to overcome them. So they "ignore" Eletheroi controlled provinces and don't no where to go, or are stuck trying to beat them. Either way, the factions appear to not be moving. I'd love to post my screenshot, but my internet sucks and the connection breaks everytime i try to upload to photobucket or imageshack.

Interesting game, though I have mixed feelings about it. The generals, for instance, at the beginning seem too much. They bankrupt an economy very quickly, especially in view of the fact that every building in the game now takes far longer to build. You either need to lower unit upkeep costs or speed up construction. Other than that, very good implementation of the Alexander engine.

Well I haven't faced any psycho calvary yet that can't be stopped with a tank corp, so I guess yes! Still I haven't quite gotten to eastern provinces with the romani so this could change.

I may have found a bug with Mercenary Bosphoran Infantry. I tried to load a battle with them in it and it said:


Error: File name doesn't exist: bi/data/models_unit/BI_unit_bosphoran_infantry_lod1.cas

Perhaps a bad file path?

Since I dont belive it will fit in AlxEb sensitive trait system (can make some strange disbalance in the future considering that bonuses are strong). Also the mod is a trait adition to some factions only, which may be nice for the hellenic and eastern factions, while at the same time is making other faction backwarded (coz of the trait bonuses others will miss ).

I suppose the files should go into "EB\data" instead. However, the rar file has been created to create that "EB12_on_ALX.exe!\eb\data" directory. How do I work around it? Copy each file manually?

for some reason, if i target EB or EB/data directory and make the rar to unzip there, it creates EB12_on_ALX.exe subdirectory and all the files underneath rather than dumping the files into EB/data. so, i just copied everything over manually. hope I didn't miss anything :)

Hi, it is eb vanilla and EB 12 is only ''overall'' compatible with EB 11 vanilla so if your save game is from EB 11 you are going to have to start new campaign on EB 12.

Also, vanilla save games are not compatible 100% with Alx.exe (there are trait issues) - so you will need to start new game :wall:

No, this game was started in EB12, so eb11-eb12 compatibility should not be a problem.
Shame, though, that there are trait issues. I want to complete this campaign, so I will have to reinstall Vanilla EB.
Regarding my second problem, activating script twice and then getting a whole bunch of messages I should not have - is that some kind of bug? I quited the game as Epiros and started the game for Rome without restarting EB, could that be a problem?

This is my install: EB1.2 with CityMod, RS textures and Darth Formation Mod. (I also play with the alex .exe)

My characters becomes immortals because of the "alex .exe". :sweatdrop: I was told to add a few lines in the export_descr_character_traits.txt. But I didn't know how, so I stole the export_descr_character_traits.txt from this mod.

I hope that's okey!

Anyway. Did you change anything else in the export_descr_character_traits.txt - or was the necessary lines to prevent characters from not dying all you did? I noticed there was tons of other different files in this mod. Will I miss something important doing this my way? The reason I am doing all this is because I really want to play with citymod.

after almost one year of no RTW, i came back to play it with my favorite mod, reinstalled EB, this time 1.2 and looked for alex add on, as in the past the Alex engine addon allowed me to have hours of great fun with EB, and to add my usual stuff from my old 1.1 build. so my question is what units does Alex EB sub mod add exactly? is there any screen/ui pics of the added units?

This project was very big and since it was done by one man army here - me, I hardly had time to list all the changes and I think that will never happen to be honest.

There are roughlly 30-40 new units and maybe total 50 new models etc. EDU is full and dmb limit on alx.exe is 550 models.

You should really try the mod out.

I was wondering if anyone has managed to run EB with alexander EXE through Steam. On my new machine I re-purchased RTW, BI and Alexander through Steam (my old CD was starting to fail). I got EB .2 installed, up and running with the RTW .exe fine. Unfortunately though, Steam has installed Alexander into a separate directory altogether. I know, if this was a CD copy, no worries: I would just copy the Alexander .exe into my RTW gold folder; do the installation of the Alexander components as mentioned at the top of this thread and be set. Nonetheless, it's not so simple with Steam. The games need to be launched through steam shortcuts, in which, every game has been referenced by an internal steam number. I am not sure how to correctly modify the steam alexander shortcut, so if would start not the alexander .exe proper but rather the .exe copy I have made in the RTW Gold directory (the one, which contains EB 1.2 install).

Or maybe it's just simpler to copy the EB 1.2 directory from RTW folder to the Alexander one?

Any thoughts appreciated.

BTW, why I bother? Alexander .exe allows me to ALT-TAB out of the game and get back in. RTW.exe never comes back after I ALT TAB out.

On a different note, YES... after having played ETW for 2 days (as British) and having had the 13 colonies declare war on me while they were my protectorate with VERY FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIPS; declaring war would have been fine, if they stood ANY chance at the time... my 2 full armies just having defeated Hurons, Iroquois and Inuit Polar(!!) Lancer(!!) hordes(!!) were marching towards the coast to sail to India; they changed course, of course, and 'cooked' the 13 colonies instead. In 3(!) turns: no more 13 colonies... The 13 colony AI had literally no armies at the time it decided to declare war on the British, which was the biggest power on the map... ETW campaign AI needs SERIOUS modding... So, yes, EB 1.2 for me now. Cannot wait for EB II to come out.

I'm currently using the Alexander EB modification, full mod not just engine, and apparently there are more units, stat changes, tons of full stacks all around, rebel and enemy...just alot of changes. For instance, I start with 100.000 mnai, as opposed to 5.000.

There's no problem with this, just means the whole game takes alot longer than before. The main reason I am using EB with Alex is because my Alex-based EB never crashes. Absolutely never...

Note: I am running a dual core processor using Vista 64 bit version...I am not very technical so I do not know what affects what else.

All I wonder about is why does my RTW-based EB crash unexpectedly and randomly (e.g. during enemy turn, or after battle, etc) when I have installed correctly, followed the directions and fixes, everything necessary to be up to date?

If this is not the right location for post, I was thinking of Technical Help but crashes are not consistent or predictable on RTW. Sorry if wrong posting. Just seek some experienced help. Thank you.

I personaly belive that developers didnt want to admit they have messed up bad before few patches and that they have realised alot of issues in 2004-2005 when Alx.exe engine was developed. That should be the main reason.

I also thing that Gold pack is still way more stable than patches etc. :wall:

Hey Maksimus, this thread has grown so long I can't find if theres an answer to this yet.

Since you first wrote this I think the EB start up has changed, so that it is no longer 'EB 1.1', 'EB 1.2' etc, but now 'EB Single Player'. Thus the path has changed. I'm no technical whizz, so I can't work it out. This is how my 1.2 single player path looks like:


C:\Activision\EB-1.2\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"

What I want to know is where to add this:


RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander

hi,

The single player EB.exe should be in your RTW folder, you can manually move this or target the single player by adding the line at the end of the target line.

For example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\rometw-alx.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander -ne

or ...wherever your Rtw folder is .. \Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander

Trivis Script is not suported, you can also use the single player EB.exe i have uploaded.

You can also just change the target line of your Trivia script

from C:\Activision\EB-1.2\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"

to C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\rometw-alx.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander -ne

Hey Makimus. Its too hard to explain (mainly because I don't really understand what's going on) but I've got EB working with Alexander now. Almost. I now get this error message when I attempt to open it, after the EB loading screens been on for a few seconds:

its a generic error, you need to reinstal the game.

Also, next time you reinstal the game, pls use the default program folder which should be
C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\...

then the target line is this

C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\rometw-alx.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander

I did. I need to wipe that 1.2 folder anyway. I think I had problems with it because I was running so many things off one installation of EB, and linking it other installations.

Thanks for this good submod, I'm really enjoying the improved AI.

My question is, if I have to change the text files (described at STEP 1) or if they are already changed if I copy you "ALX engine files".

And btw, you could perhaps move the hint to install ALEX not on a different HD as C:\ to a bitter better place so peeps like me could find it easier....I stopped to read the install guide as it began to say something about "Extensive Alexander EB Modification 2009 Final edition", so I did first not realize this aspect.

Whoo, EB on Alex is fast, nearly too fast!

the waiting between the turns is not even enough to get sth to drink or going to the bathroom....

without Alex I have something like 35-45s.

with Alex it's only 20-25s.

This is great!

But where does this come from? Is Alex-TW.exe better in reading and checking the script?

Better programming practices = streamlined executable. How would I know? I've programmed the same program several ways and the recommended conventions of structure (I program in C) allow for better readability and overall efficiency. If you use heuristic approaches, cutting out unnecessary objects and sacrificing readability (harder to find bugs this way) then you will achieve faster run-times.

But Maksimus, if I remember correctly, I tried your Alx Engine only mod and using those files I ran single player script and it worked (you changed the xml or else it wouldnt have used alx.exe). But for EAEM, I have to use a shortcut instead of the single player script. Why didnt you just make single player script use alx.exe just like you did in engine-only mod?

Alx.exe engine file's have only few files changed and the target line, while Eaem has major modifications (especially EDU and some system ones) .. so for eaem means I would need to make xlm tweaks which 1- i never did before in my life and 2- o.o i dont know how to do it

I was playing alex.exe with nothing but the target changed in in the shortcut. Now I realized my faction leader is immortal from some trait or something, and to fix it I made all of those file changes from your instructions. When I changed it all whenever I loaded or started a new game RTW exited out, so I had to switch it back. Is there any way to make your Faction leader not immortal without making all of those changes..

Can someone upload the files again? I got the errors that "Turkeys" has and can't correct them after installing the update. For some reason Rome overwrites some of the new files when launching and gives me errors now.

Filefront will give an email that your files are to be deleted if you don't log in and 'unselect' them for deletion within a few days of the email. Make sure that filefront emails aren't going to your spam....

yep, u need to register to fileplanet....but its free....another site like that is gamespot.....
& if you are having problems with rapidshare, try megaupload......it is like rapidshare but I don't think they delete files.......or you can use a torrent but for that atleast one of us will have to seed.......

I have downloaded & installed EAEM........I have only two minor problems with it.....

1)- The default resolution of my monitor is 800x600. Alex EB does'nt switch to 1024x768 like vanilla EB & RTW-Alex did. So I get a half image which makes it unplayable. However, if I manually change the resolution, than there is no problem.
2)- when I finally played alex eb (playing as macedon), than I found all factions at the start have elite units, thats cool :beam:.....but then, I found that Konion Hellenon as well as Pergamnon have the macedonian Hetairoi in their stacks. Pergamnon even have access to Seleucids Hellenic Cataphracts. I believe that this destroys the advantage one faction has over the other. So I wish to replace the cavalry of these greek factions with their own elite cavalry i.e. Greek noble cavalry or Lonchopriene (messed up with spelling) Hippies.

So which files I have to edit ??????? EDU of sp backup ????? or any other :help:

lionhard, there are two versions of Alexander EB:

1) playing the same 'ol EB game but using the Alex engine that crashes less and has a supposedly better AI or

2) playing EAEM, a submod of EB that not only uses the Alex engine but also changes units, adds units, and anything else it does.

Assuming you just want to play with the alex engine...this is what you do:

Make sure you've installed RTW, 1.3, and 1.5 patches.
Install EB 1.1, 1.2 patch, and the fixes located here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=109936).
Download and install the file called Alx on EB 1.2 (engine files). Somebody should help you find it because for some reason the links on first page don't work anymore.
Once you've unzipped those files into EB, you need to create a shortcut that links to the Alexander executable file with the appropriate extensions (e.g. no movies...windowed mode, etc).
Honestly, the first page needs to be revised. It's not clear enough in my opinion.

Sorry to write against you, but I think that installing EAEM is worth the trouble :sweatdrop: 'cause you just have to install EB 1.1 with 1.2 than add the fixes followed by installing EAEM plus EAEM fixes than download the modified shortcut & simply play the game with cool extra units & other benefits........:yes:

However, there is an issue concerning the loading screen :oops: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frequently I encounter this problem when I try to load a new campaign or any other game for that matter. My screen goes black & I don't get the loading screen & the program becomes unresponsive........:whip:

Pls help :help:........This is spoiling an otherwise beautiful game :wall:............

p.s. @ lionhard the vanilla EB fixes are in the EB bug reports section of the forum......

I like EB as it is i would just love better AI. Maybe ill try the whole mod 1 day, im in work atm but when i get home im gonna install the alex changes if i manage first time (which i wont) ill prob be postin back here 2nite for help:embarassed:

also i think this mod shud host a better page, if its as good as it sounds a page on a forum is a sad place for a decent mod :(

You have unzipped into...I think it's EB/Data...whatever. Wherever you need to do it you have done it.

Now you need to make a shortcut that points to "...\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander"

Use the Alex CD.

Ok i manually copied and pasted eb/data//chat_filer.san into the data slot in EB and it worked.


Now my problem is i tryed selecting EB main campaign and it says "please select an item from the list"

so whats this error and how do i solve it?

Iv done everything it says whats going on plz help some 1 :shame:

Also just to add i had a saved game as koinon hellon and when i pressed start it did but their was no night battle function?

Edit: only the main menu works i cant start custum battles either :(

hello, well i have a problem, i have EB1.2 with fixes, and i wanted to play this with alex engine, so i download the alex zip and copy it to Eb data, next i copy alex exe from my CD to the main instalation folder or rome total war 1.5(dont hv BI) next i change the target line to that of the "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander then i hit the EB exe single player, it starts with out error and when i get to menu my single player options are as the same as MP exe , been i cant play EB campaing only historical and custom... :(

It seems like most of you who are getting errors have issues with Rome, EB, or Alex files. I had gotten those too, but honestly issues don't arise if you mod over a clean Rome install. I made a clean Rome install, clean EB 1.1, 1.2 w/ fixes, unzipped EB 1.2 with Alex engine files into the appropriate folder, and downloaded the pre-made shortcut link. And I had no problems whatsoever. I think the only problems for y'all is downloading the wrong files maybe. I have all the original files that were up on filefront before they were taken down (it seems as if this is what happened) if any of you need them.

P.S. Knight of Heaven, by the way, when I used the Alex engine, because certain files are written over, I couldn't play MP with others cause of data conflicts. Just saying this cause I know you play in the online tourney.

Unzip this file to...say your desktop. Open the folder. Inside you will find two objects: 1) a shortcut called alxeb and 2) a folder named 'eb' (without quotes).

Before you proceed, make sure you have done the following:

Fresh install of RTW (do not install RTW into program files, install into a directory in root of your drive).

For convenience, let us assume we are installing Rome Total War into C:\RTW_EB

Patch RTW 1.3

Patch RTW 1.5

Install EB 1.1 into C:\RTW_EB

Patch EB 1.2 into C:\RTW_EB

EB 1.2 Fixes (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=109936) (You will need to unzip these fixes into C:\RTW_EB\EB\Data. If you did this correctly you will be prompted with endless overwrite prompts...choose to overwrite all.)

Copy alex executable file (engine file with purple icon) from your Alexander CD into C:\RTW_EB

Copy 'eb' folder that I mentioned in the beginning into C:\RTW_EB where the EB folder from the EB installation is located.
This will prompt you to overwrite files that may be located within the original EB folder (checks for shared file names), choose Yes to overwrite all files.

Phew...now that you've done the bulk of the work, go back to the shortcut to the EB_Alex game that you found from the zip file you downloaded. Go to its properties page and if I remember correctly there are two important boxes named Target and Launch Path or just Path. Anyways, one points to ...\Rome - Total War\rtw-alex.exe or something along those lines. Change the first part to say C:\RTW_EB because THAT is where your ALEX engine file from your CD is located (you copied it in the beginning, remember?)
Do the same with the launch path (does not point to file, only should change from C:\Program files\activision\rome... to C:\RTW_EB).


Good luck and I hope this helps because I have not used this engine or EAEM mod for over a month (because I need vanilla EB 1.2 to play online with others...I find playing humans more fun than the campaign. You can still have a separate EB folder just for the Alex engine so you can campaign, but that's a long long story. I can't be bothered!)

well thanks anyway, but i did what you say, but it didnt work, or to be acurate, it work , but i dont use alex exe. i use Rome exe, and i did start a campaing, and i have all the alex features, night battles etc the only thing i did was to copy those files to eb data to replace some files, i extratc the alex exe from CD but i dont use it.
Well as for the files are changed i can still do MP battles, its still compatible to anyone becouse i start with rome exe. and the files from this mod dont overwrite the EDU files so its still compatible to MP online. You should be able to play MP with alex engine working.
To conclude i instal the alex features but i cant get alex exe to work properly, so i use the rome exe. I belive my problem is with trivial script, i have then instaled on another folder, that is not Rome total war folder, but im not sure about that.

Ok progress made, jesus that took me ages lol.

Thx for ur help vartan, i had to wipe clean my EB twice cas i copied the EB file over with out changing names and some were not copied bla bla and forgot to patch it to 1.2 and add the fixes. But its almost bed time lol work early. So i carried on installing the gear to see how far i got.


i used the alexeb shortcut to start the game using the alex cd, when the EB loading screen came on it had alexander in yelow at the bottom, so i was almost screeming with excitement iv been trying to get better AI for so long and this mod has been a pain, obviously i had the wrong files.


1 question does this engine include night battles? or is that the EDSM mod?

What change in EB can i look for other than better AI to confirm i have done everything properly.

lionhard you should see the Alexander on bottom of load screen and better AI as well as night battles, but that is all. There will be nothing else really.

That's what the EAEM is for, changes units, adds alot of units to the campaign map, makes the whole game longer and harder. Also needs more patience from you. But I think unless you're ready for commitment, the engine is pretty great.

well as far as i konw if you atack should be a option on the lower right to night battles, as well better Ai on the battlefield, and in campaing, i konw Ai retrain their units, there is more naval invasions.

I messed up on my 2nd install and forgot to add the alex exe and started taking away documents id added previously an started losing myself till i realised what id really done.

Anyway its working again and i have the night attack function in my campaign, but when i tested it as koinon hellon it wouldnt let me click the box for night attack with 1 general.

But with another it let me click the box and night attack worked, shudnt it always let u click the box and then see what the out come is?


I feel the AI has improved in battle now its time to check the campaign role play to see if its made the right effects.

Il be so happy if its working correctly :)
