I have two computers, both of which have ran vanilla R:TW flawlessly in the past. I had been watching Rome the television series and got a hankering to play R:TW. After hearing from friends about how great this mod was, I decided to do a clean install and install it. Installing it successfully, I tried to play it.

After waiting ten minutes for the game to load (one computer is pretty ancient by today's standards), I decided I would rather play vanilla R:TW on the slower computer since I didn't have the time to wait for it to load and instead try installing it on my more recent machine.

I uninstalled EB and R:TW and then installed EB on my newer computer. Well, I couldn't even get it to run on the newer computer with a clean install. So I decided to just play vanilla R:TW. However, it wouldn't run. So I guessed it was something wrong with my newer computer. So I decide to reinstall R:TW on my older computer. Just like my newer computer, it installs fine, but whenever I run it, an instance on the taskbar opens and then closes almost immediately with nothing else, no error screen, nothing.

I've spent days trying to fix it with every solution possible. I've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, manually uninstalling and cleaning the installation, spyware checks, the whole nine yards and still nothing.

Using the process monitor, the failing seems to be something about an "~e5.0001". I'll post an image of the process monitor after this post, because it won't let me post it in this one.

Anyway, the only thing I could link to the failure of it is this mod. Prior to installing it vanilla R:TW ran perfectly, and yet now it won't run at all. I don't want to sound angry, but I am a little miffed. Is this an issue with EB?

Since EB doesnt install onto your normal RTW files I dont think it should affect your vanilla play. Did you completely delete your RTW file? Going into my computer, local disk, program files, activision, and deleting the RTW file.

I used to have to do that when I would switch mods, but I've never heard of this happening.

This concerns the copy protection.

I'm aware that it's the copy protection, but no one seems to have any fix for it. Upon more reflection, it's probably not EB, since it also happens with Battlefield 2142 and a score of other games (which I don't own). I guess I'm just upset that I have a game I bought (which is actually quite rare) that I can't play because of a malfunctioning copy protection scheme. :(

What copy protection would that be? I have often seen that process hanging in memory after I've exited RTW, and have had to terminate it manually.

-Edit: Gah Macrovision, I need to look into this...
