View Full Version : Few questions
I have some questions about the game. They are really stupid, and they would bright up if I played the campaing more, but I want to know every helpful point of the game from the start of the campaing. So:
1. How can I set the Tax Rating to Automatical? Is it wise to do so?
2. How can I propose alliance? Do I have to search the king with my emissary like in Shogun, or can I propose alliance to the generals or something?
3. What use is taking prisoners in battle? Why shouldn´t I kill them right away?
4. What´s the use to name a general to a governor of a province? Besides it increasing the loyalty of the general.

1. It's in the game options. not sure if it is good i have never used it.
2. you can drop one of your emisaries on one of theirs.
3. You can ransom the prisioners after the battle for money. If you happen to capture their king you will get a lot of money.
4.If the general has a high acumen the income from the province will be better. Also the generals dread and piety rating have some effect on the loyalty of the province.

1) The auto tax rate, along with other options, is a pull out menu to the right of the mini map on the strategy screen. It sets the rate to the highest it can while keeping loyalty above 100. This is not high enough to deter rebellion under all circumstances so use it with caution.
2 and 3) Like Red said. Also, I believe killing them can increase enemy morale sometimes. They might fight harder knowing that you kill/enslave prisoners.
4) Some titles add more than loyalty. They can add dread or acumen too. Keeping the governor at home increases happiness somewhat(I think)

About that prisoner thing: Am I able to control taking the prisoners anyhow? Or is it just random, will the enemy general die or be captured in battle.
And as far as I remember, the only available options after a battle with captured prisoners were "Exetute them all", "Execute the general/nobleman/something", "Let them all go away". How can I ask ransom for them?
You must think I´m a guy with no iniative, a guy that can´t do anything himself, because I ask questions like this, but like I said, I want to know every useful detail and availabilities of this game before I start the playing the campaing seriously. So, thanks for being patient.
Ask whatever you want Valtzu. Just remember that there are smarter people than me around here!
The execution options you mention only occur after you capture rebels. Kill 'em all and your dread may well go up. Let 'em all go free and the locals may be happier for it. Dispatch the ring leaders and I guess you split the difference!
After an ordinary battle your prisoners are automatically ransomed if someone will pay. Otherwise they "go away" (ahem).
Doh! Forgot the capture question. Your men capture fleeing enemies instead of killing them. You have no influence on this at all as far as I can tell beyond ordering their deaths after the fact.

One more important question: How can I simply start a crusade? First, I need an army? Do I need some buildings?
Oh, and one thing: Is it wise to put the unit training and/or building to automatical? Can the AI build and train wisely?
Draksen, kyllä olen Hämeenlinnasta. Enpä olisi uskonut löytäväni suomalaista täältä.
Olen ranskalainen mut asun Hämeenlinnassakin (kettumäki!!!) http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

You must build a chapter house to make a crusade. This requires a keep and a church.
I have never used auto build or train.
