View Full Version : US Veteran's Day Nov 11th
Just wanted to say a short and most sincere Thank You to all our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, family and friends in the military, active and retired, veteran and non-veteran alike. Without your service and sacrifices our nation and way of life would not be possible.

So in the US you have Veterans Day then?
Here in the UK we celebrate (the right word?) Remembrance Day, and we all wear poppies because of the whole Flanders field thing where the only thing that grew after the battle were poppies.
To all our allies and friends.

Thanks foremost to my great grandfather who fought in the trenches in France and to the many great uncles/uncles I had who fought the Nazis in Europe/The Japanese in the Pacific and the Vietcong/NVA is Vietnam.
Thanks to everyone else who has ever served in the Armed Forces.

I personally salute our current crop of servicemen and -women, volunteers all, and their families who suffer with them and don't see them for years at a time. Thank you.

I was unaware of this thread until mine got closed. Sorry Whacker, wasn't trying to run a duplicate thread on you.
And to all veterans, past and present, once again, thank you. ~

And Nazism. :2thumbsup: (There is a difference you know ~;))
To all soldiers everywhere that have served their countries, both past and present. And another moment for all those that were wounded or gave the ultimate sacrifice.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

A very powerful poem, along with the phrase 'Lest we forget'
In the UK it's known as remembrance day. Everyone wears paper poppies like this one:

The proceeds of the poppies go the British Legion I think.

Indeedy. A salute to every goodly soldier, alive and dead, to have fought in wars both long gone and in progess - "right" side or wrong. It may not be sweet and fitting, but it's most certainly brave.
