I am having a heck of a time configuring the perfect settings for Shogun Total War Warlord Edition. I used to play STW all the time with high resolution and hardware acceleration - no problems.

I can view videos fine, no throne room crashes. Audio is great. I even have Win98 compatibility on. I have also never used/installed Nero. What am I doing wrong?

I should make a small correction - I have Gold Edition that came from Soldout Software. I had to use a nocd ie ShogunW.exe. The exec it came with - ShogunM.exe would not start at all. I have patched to 1.02b as well

Running Windows Xp. It really stinks that I have to choose between a nice looking strategy map and being able to do a battle. I also updated my codecs to K-lite 5.3. Same problem. I have Windows Media Player 11 as well. Already set to the default player for everything.

If I choose Basic Acceleration - I get an awful - pixelated map. I also cannot use Map Editor or the mouse for camera control - both greyed out But I can play Battles that are slow with no mouse control.

If I choose Full Acceleration - The Strategy map looks perfect - But Battles -CTD ShogunM.exe has encountered an error

I have an ATi Mobility Radeon 9000 card with latest Omega Radeon Drivers.

Please - anyone with any suggestions... pixel shader versions... anything please help!

And refresh rate is 60Hz and I ran the starforce removal too.

Disable Win98 compatibility mode, doesn't help and slows the game.

Edit your post to remove the part I have omitted or the thread will be closed.

The patching, IIRC, replaces the executable, though I could be wrong. Simply reinstall, run the correct patch and that's it. Note: You may not need to patch Gold Edition at all.

Leave WMP as the default.

Where are you changing these settings? In the drivers or from the hardware acceleration in windows?
I have an ATi Mobility Radeon 9000 card with latest Omega Radeon Drivers. [/QUOTE]
Get Driver Cleaner Pro, remove the drivers and download the Omega 2.5.67a based on the Catalyst 4.8 drivers. I have found these to be the most stable with STW/MTW and Radeon 9xxx series cards. With the latest drivers STW/MTW will CTD at the campaign map every time. You can get away with up to about 5.7 if you wish to try this but with my 9800 Pro they still cause problems that I didn't have with those same drivers and the 9000 Pro. All in all Omega 2.5.67a seem to be the best, and performance is optimal.

Pixel Shaders don't really apply.

You need a higher refresh rate than that or you'll hurt your eyes. Were there any Staforce enabled games on your system?

Well it has to be the drivers then - which blows me away. Shogun Total War ran perfect with this settings. Gold Edition with patches and such can't handle new drivers?

I have 6.14 and that was the only way to get M2TW to work without a meltdown on my laptop. Do you know of a driver swapping method? I have to have to choose between one or the other to play.

As for the hardware acceleration - The driver acceleration is found as the same place both for Windows and the Drivers - Right click desktop > Advanced > Troubleshoot. I changed it from there.

I have played with the individual OpenGL and Direct3D acceleration using ATi Tools as well- no change.

Thanks for replying btw.

I also see no tools on my screen to edit any posts - I would remove what you asked - if you can feel free!

6.14 are no good for STW/MTW, it will have to be 5.7 at the least. I know of no driver swapping method that doesn't involve driver cleaner pro, reinstalls of drivers and reboots, no sorry. I can only suggest you decide which game you want to play for now and stick with it.

You don't need to change this.

You don't need to change anything related to OpenGL as unfortunately TW games use M$ DirectX (Direct3D).

Of course, I forgot about that. Basically the discussion of cracks, warez and piracy etc is frowned upon here (yes I know you own the game etc) so I was just tipping you off to remove that bit.

On a serious note, I'd advise that you avoid the "executable" in question anyway as they are usually buggy and unreliable. They can also be a container for viruses and trojans as they come from unreliable sources.

It was the drivers... I downgraded them to 5.7, but now the strategy map looks blurry. Any tips on how to make it sharp and clear using ATI Tools?

Thanks again for the help.

Check the Direct3D options and perhaps disable or reduce the level of AA. What campaign map resolution are you using?
