My vocabulary level is 45. What is your vocabulary level?
By the way: 100 gr.= one spoon
1000 gr.= 1 bowl.

37 after I got to 400 grams. I got up to about 40, but then it slipped around the middle.

Wow, those words were hard.

I'm a lowly 33, darn those one syllable words.
I guess I consume about 2500 grains of rice per meal so that puts me about 5000-6000 grains of rice per day. Man, I need to horde less rice.

Was at 46 after 490 grains. Would probably have gone up.
Those words are wicked hard though. The ones I knew I've never used in real life, and there were bunches I've never heard before but I did pretty well at guessing their meaning for some reason. A lot comes down to etymology I think.

I plan to do 100 words a day for the next month, which should feed one person for roughly a week.

Perhaps we should start an Org challenge to see who can do the most in a week? I'd be up for it.

36 at 1970 grams.
I'm quite happy with 36. Some were fiendishly hard or obscure.
Sometimes I didn't even know what half the words in the answer meant. But with some etymology and logic I got a long way. The great thing about English is that most of it's 'difficult' words are derived from Latin languages. Or they are the local variant of international Greek / Latin words.
English academic discourse is easier to understand than a pub conversation.

At 1000g I'm at 48. I confess to some lucky guesses and pattern observation (gorse) but also to missing some words whose alternate definitions I should have known (panoply!) As with any multiple choice test if you take your time and use clues within the question (word) it isn't hard to get even a complete unknown down to a 50-50 possibility.
Of course I guess taking your time is rather counter purposeful in light of the larger goal of the site. :idea2: I suspect if I buzzed through them I'd be in the 40 range. Does the rating go above fifty?

Highest I had it at was 41. That was hard, the next one is particularly hard and I don't know the answer, so if I carry on my score will be punished...
I have 230 grains now and a vocab level of 36.
Some words are a bit weird but many can be easily derived from latin.

That, and you can get a few by process of ellimination.
Also some of their 'definitions' are very loose indeed, they're like they came out a dodgy thesaurus. A good test, but not so good for learning new words.

44 at 500.
I agree with what some have said above, if you know a little Latin it's a lot easier.

Got to 45 then dropped to 40, aarrghh!
It's a nice idea though - good excuse to waste more time on web :wall:
EDIT: did get to 46 a couple of times but keep going back to about 43

Egh. Didn't even notice the 'vocab' level until I was aways through it. By the time I was at 750 grains of rice, I was at 30.
Fell to Level 15 (!!!!), then clawed my way back to 32. Got 2000 grains of rice though

Was around 41 (translater did all job :laugh4: )

that's kind of depressing you can get just under my average (with minor help from translator - they are quite bad) - and I can't even work out what letters in Russian are :embarassed:

lol, the cyrillic alphabet is actually not that hard to read. The hard part is writing it. It all has to be written in cursive! :help:
Mine looks pitifull...but I am just learning. :)

I some times cannot understand English cursive either. :P
45 at 1000 grains.
It is not really testing my vocab though as I don't know most of the words. It's mainly testing my ability to guess meanings.

45 or 46 (forgot) at 420 grams...
But, if I were to try to guess a "realistic" level, I'd prolly be more at 42-43, judging by how likely you are to actually meet/know/use some of those words in your daily life; stuff above 43 or so becomes unreasonably obscure, imo. Also, for most stuff beyond 43 or so, I didn't always know the meaning, but I can infer it; if you just asked me what that word meant, without giving me possible values to pick from, I wouldn't always know it - hence why I said that realistically it's more like 43. But you can beat any game, of course...
Just started, and my word are they obscure. For example:
Macadam -> Tarmacadam -> Tarmac
Actually most of them don't mean what the answer is, they're actually more than often synonyms.
You think tarmacs are obscure??? Then what was I walking on today then... :dizzy2:

Really, what is the point in this sort of thing?
Its just a stupid thing to make you feel good about yourselves, and to make you think how good the company that runs it is.
Why not just give it anyway?
Seriously, if they actualy cared, they would give it anyway, how can you volcabluary make them want to donate rice!!?
Its even stupider than sponsors.
Harsh maybe, but very true IMHO. I refuse to participate in this farce. If I want to help the world, then I'll do so by donating money straight to charity, and I do. And even that isn't the best option, but there has to be a line somewhere between effiency and practicality, I admit.
Participating in these ridicolous and self defeating marketing ploys that charities are forced to come up with these days will only encourage them to become more prevalent.

It is sponsors. Every time you ask a question you're viewing ad on the bottom of the page.
They can't 'just give it away' because they don't have it till you view that page, get the ad revenue, to donate it.
