Anyone here from Russia? Care to share something about your culture/language/country with us?
One thing that I am curious about: do all Russian school children learn English as well as Russian? I know that Germans learn English, just wondering if it is the same over there. :)
Peace be upon you comrades.

yeah and how does russia keep all that land? I bet there are large area's uninhabited.
Alright,
Anyone here from Russia?Obviously yes; :P
Care to share something about your cultureWhat exactly?
languageHehehe, russian swearing is unmatched! :laugh4:
do all Russian school children learn English as well as Russian? We have foreign-language lesson in schools, it is either german (old schools), english (almost every), or french (not many). You choose one that you want to learn (it's questionable, for most of us it's just another 40 min behind the desk. Two last years in school I and folks just sat and translate those damn texts! more, it was me who actually translate them, while others copied . ). Since you reading what I have wrote, I learnt english..
I bet there are large area's uninhabited.Of coz there are a lot of uninhabited areas in Siberia, and to the east.. It's like Yukon and surroundings...
Peace be upon you comrades. Ow yea, same to you
USA sprinters are best on earth.
(and Tyson Gay is best among them)
Alright,
Obviously yes; :P
What exactly?

lol, I am thinking of going there, just wondering what it is like (and if there is anything I should know. :P).

Bah! It is nothing to American :furious3: . :P :beam: ~;)

Ahh, I heard that it was German for a long time (just like in Romania and Bulgaria), but heard that recently English was the big language. So do they make learning a secondary language mandatory?
In America, Spanish is the big secondary language (since we are on the borders of Mexico), but it is not mandatory.
I am learning German at my Uni now. :P
Since you reading what I have wrote, I learnt english..
lol, British English I see. That is the same with my friend. She came from Russia when she was a little girl, and she does not remember much about it. She does though (to this day) speak the British English that she was taught.
I prefer to spell colour with a u myself actually. :P
I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the gov, or regulations that I should know. My friend told me to bring extra money to bribe the police. :P I guess it is pretty hard for the National government to keep a tight hand on the municipalities.
I was also wondering if you could (related to what I said above) tell me what your opinion is on the Government. I know that most Russians who I know love their Country and their people, but generally dislike the government.
I guess that is kind of how I feel about it too. (though I am far removed and do not know all the circumstances) I love Russian culture, and have liked nearly all of the Russian people who I have met (dated one for a while :P), but am not crazy about the government. :P
Don't want a political discussion since this is the Frontroom, I just want to know anything that could be important when I go there. (If I ever get the money)
Also, I am profoundly interested in the culture.
@Beirut, this is not a political discussion, I just want to know anything about the government that could be important when I travel there.
Vuk

S'cool. The Frontroom handles Org. travel plans.
So do they make learning a secondary language mandatory?Yep. Though I'm not sure if it's 100% mandatory. "By default" it is.
I am thinking of going there, just wondering what it is like (and if there is anything I should know. :P). Definitely go through some villages, for real feeling, Moscow and other big cities can't give you that. Which exactly, I think there are tourist guides for that..

I guess that is kind of how I feel about it too. Besides I don't know much about your gov, our gov is nothing but ****!:wall: It's completely anti-social. They absolutely don't care about simple people. They have millions, while my family for example $120 per month (I live in small town, not moscow). Prices in shops are growing unstoppable, only salary frozen:dizzy2:
I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the gov, or regulations that I should know. Well, I'm not a lawyer really.. It is same generally I guess, except guns.
My friend told me to bring extra money to bribe the police. :P I guess it is pretty hard for the National government to keep a tight hand on the municipalities.Hehehe. Yeah, this corrupt scum like bribes.. They called militia officially and 'scum' unofficially here ...
Bah! It is nothing to American :sad3:
Nope. You don't know much about it obviously...

lol, that sounds horrible. Gov in the US is far from perfect, but yeah, it is a lot nicer. (But we still get ridiculous prices ;))
I'll have to remember to bring as much cash as I can. Putin and the current gov may not be on my top list of desired experiences, but I can't wait to see the country and the people. :)

Yeah, I just meant things like if they make you fill out a Visa or something. When I visited a relative in Isreal I had to do that, not sure if it is the same in Russia. I can get a guide for that though. ~;)
Nope. You don't know much about it obviously
Maybe, but American swears can get PRETTY bad. ~;) (Not just what you hear in Hollywood)

No swearing in any language particularly the Kingdom of Love.
On purpose obfuscation of swearing will only lead to more warning points, not less.

I can read and pronounce Russian...just not very well.
I can see a word and know how to pronounce it, but I probably wouldn't know what it meant. :P As long as you can tell me the meanings, I can take care of the pronounciation myself.
