Hmmm I've been trying to figure this one out for a while, and it could be that I'm blind in some way.

So, I started a Hayasdan campaign and everything was going pretty ok. I just united the homelandish area and had my economy up and running with about 1000 profit a turn. Then all of a sudden, i started making only 6 or 7 gold a turn. I checked my finance sheet and it said my army upkeep was 3600! This is way more than what it should be, as I disbanded my army after conquering and it should only be about 600 or so. I checked for any hidden armys that i missed or if I had some shitty trait but I cant seem to find anything.

Any suggestions?

Hayasdan generals bodyguards are expensive because they're really really tough, could be that.

Besides, no money will be the least of your worries once the Seleukids lay siege to your capital with a full stack of mercenaries.

You don't have to pay upkeep for the FMs' bodyguard (save for a few exceptions).

Did you place Level IV Governements in your conquests? Because that is different: you'll have to pay for the upkeep of the puppet leaders' bodyguards.

That was my thought too, but Siruso wrote "army upkeep", not "wages". AFAIK, them CRs Bodyguards are under the wages in the budget.

The wages are extra. You have to pay wages for your FM bodyguards too. I think, but don't know for sure, that diplomats and spies are paid by wages as well. If the bodyguard has an additional upkeep it is listed under "army upkeep".

In the unit infoscreen, there's a row with "upkeep". Well, both FMs & CRs have 0 upkeep for their Bodyguards, yet there's some money to pay. I'm not 100% sure, but I think all that money you pay for those bodyguard units are under wages.

... and yes: diplomats, spies & assasins are listed under "wages".

As far as I know, bodyguards don't get paid. The amount of bodyguard has no effect on FM's wages. From what I know, all the FMs and other generals get a fixed payment, which doesn't change on any circumstance, except death.
