View Full Version : Problems with EB installation

When I run EB the game freezes on the title screen, and after about 5 minutes an error message comes up about a problem accessing the sound data (other times this error message will be combined with one about a missing file on a cavalry archer).
I have reinstalled EB three times, re-downloaded it twice (from two differant mirrors), and reinstalled RTW and all the patches.
The installation of EB takes a surprisingly long time, usually half an hour to 45 minutes (far longer then it takes to install RTW).
Any help here?
See the EB installation validation thread for tips on how to get it to work.

I've tried most of those fixes, and I just reinstalled EB for the fourth time, but still nothing. I havent had problems with RTW itself or any other mods.
There's a checklist there. Please tell me the various things you've tried from that list.

_ Using a nocd crack? Your game won't work, use the original executable instead. There is no point in trying the rest of the list until you install a fresh, clean 1.5 RTW.
Not a problem for me.
_ Install RTW and EB once again, from scratch
Reinstalled both RTW and EB, along with all the RTW patches.
_ Install using 7-zip rather than installer
_ Download a map.rwm file and place it in eb/data/world/maps/base (requires both the disaster and Oppida permanent fixes)
Still have to try these two.
_ Add -nm to the shortcut
Yup
_ Delete some interfering files that Vista hides in its bowels
_ Run the validation tool to diagnose the problem
_ Install the fixes linked in my sig
Done, done and done
_ Add more swap space in Windows, and other technical measures you can take
_ Using RTW Gold? Try to uninstall everything and do not install BI
No, I'm not using Gold.
_ Got an ATI Radeon X700 graphics card? Apparently some setting called "Support DXT textures format" is creating problems. Try to change this setting for the driver called "Support DXT textures format".
Not a problem for me.
I know that you guys are still working out all the bugs, so I'll reinstall again just to be sure but if it doesnt work I guess I'll just have to wait for the next version to be released.

I reinstalled again. The title screen came up, the game froze for about 5 minutes, then the opening movie ran for 3 seconds and the game crashed.
Have you tried the validation program?

Have you tried the validation program?
Yes, I have.
Another strange thing- I finally got EB to load properly, but there seems to be a lot of lag (except in the battle map, which works fine). I have never had this happen in RTW before. Also, when I experimented with the units in a custom battle, I only had access to the units for the Rebels/Independants even though the battle was Romani vs. Pontos.
EB requires alot more of your computer than vanilla or any other mod. For custom battles, you need to switch to the custom battle edu. If you don't understand what I mean, just do a quick forum search, the same question is asked every week.

So that leaves a few points.
Installing by 7-zip is mostly a solution for those with non-western character sets, so that probably won't work any better for you, assuming you're German from your username. It will still go faster than a regular install though.
Could you please post the results of the validation tool here, I'd like to see it. Maybe it can give some clues.
You skipped saying anything about the technical measures. You should try those too, there's a link in the original thread.

You can of course wait for the next version. But you're likely to have the same issues still, as the huge majority run it just fine it's probably a problem on your end. It could also be a hardware issue. Lack of RAM and particular graphics cards and/or particular drivers tend to be common causes of trouble.
