because i seriously cannae rememebr who they are supposed to be...

I think the closest to a battlefield ninja type unit would be the Hashishin from the Almohad army. For the cost though they are not worth the effort except for maybe assassinating a battlefield general in the heat of battle and causing his army to rout.

The Hasishin (Assassins) totally ruined my first attempt at playing the Egyptians - I was suffering 3 and 4 successful assassinations per turn, even with watch towers and emmissaries. How do I guard against them? Of course it didn't help that I wasn't winning battles so all my generals were low valor.

we are on about the battlefield units...

umm...

well basically you need lots and lots of spies, but no matter what you do the flood of enemy assasins will mean you loose some of your best men.

at least 6-7 spies in all your provinces reduces the number of assasinations (but you do get shitloads of "your forces have caught an enemy assasin" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)

No man, you need some of your own assasins in every province to catch the enemy assasins ( i think you all know that the word assasin came from the hashishin secte who get their name because they consumed a lot of hashish)

I have no problem with assasin, my bodyguards catch them all... however the enemy priests who wander into muslim lands don't fare as well...
