My current PSU can only dole out 20A on the 12v rail and I eventually want to upgrade my x850xt card to something...more modern.
Any recommendations on a pretty cheap psu that will be able to handle an 8800, or something in that range?

Hi alman7272,
Perhaps this list (http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/landingpages/psuguide/default.asp) will interest you. For the 8800 GTX, according to the specified link, the recommended power supply wattage is 600W+.
I'm not technically orientated enough to specify a specific brand though. Sorry.
Hope this is of use to you.
I can fairly say that PSU is not a thing for saving money. So if your other hardware equals 8800, in order to overclock your PSU should have around 800 W from good brand.

I have a 700W OCZ. It's an absolute beast, and I love it.
I bought a PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI back when they were "the big thing", and holy crap was/is it bulletproof. You'll pay out the wazoo for these, but they are generally of higher quality and a 'safe bet'. I am however somewhat inclined to agree with an assessment performed by HardOCP, they are top notch, but not perfect, and they will cost you a fair dime unless you can find a good deal, but they are still high quality. For my newest machine, I just bought a Thermaltake Toughpower 800w modular PSU, and it's been rock solid for 2 months now w/no burps or hiccups. It was around $200, which for the wattage and quality was a good buy on Newegg IMO. Charge is definitely correct, the two things you do NOT want to scrimp on getting junk components are your PSU and RAM. Best of luck.
