Got mine yesterday thanks to my pre-order being sent out early.
Mario has never been my uber cup of tea. I like the games, never love them. It's not so surprising then that my first feelings were underwhelming. Where was this amazing game the world has been raving (97% average review according to metacritic!) about? Then I started walking around upside down, playing with gravity, and running around a mini planet.
The music is lovely. That for the first world especially.
There is one thing missing: "Star get!". "You got a power star!" doesn't compare.
You wait for Stingray surfing, this is the sequel to Mario64. Glorious is the only word to describe it, will probably remembered as the game of the decade.

Not the most constructive of comments. If I didn't know about the box art controversy I'd have assumed it to be aimed at someone. :hairpin2:
(Box art controversy: on the game box certain letters in the title have a little star on them. Put them together in the order they appear and it spells out "u r mr gay")
Fragony, how far in is the surfing? I'm on the second proper world now, the honeycomb one. I am taking this one slowly, no more than 2 stars per day. It's been 10 long years since Mario 64 amazed me, 10 long years of waiting and wishing they would release something similar but with a decent camera.
Very early in the game, I have gotten a bit further and it never lets down. You are in for a real treat, the game is just glorious. Everything I liked about Mario64 but bigger, prettier, and yes, more inventive. Hour after hour it manages to stay original, this is nintendo's sistene chapel.

Froggy - i was a bit wary about posting that, but i thought it would be interesting to see how many people got the reference. Speaking of said reference, was it intentional? Or just the greatest mistake in history?

Well me no froggy, but nintendo isn't exactly shy using sexual innuendo in a rather creepy way.

Crikey, I suppose it will get banned in Queensland then.

I would guess that it began as a cover artist messing around. It has to be intentional on Nintendo's part now, however it started out. The message was spotted shortly after the boxart was revealed, and that's sufficiently long ago that the stars could have been removed for launch.
