The orginal cast might be doing the voices for the game, too soon to tell though :2thumbsup:
It would seem difficult for me to even consider trying its demo, as I have been influenced by the nerdy one who games on consoles such as Nintendo and other old-school apparatuses and who is usually angered and spitting out foul language (http://www.cinemassacre.com/Movies/Nes_Nerd.html).
But you know... I put my hand on my chest to check if I still have a heart, and yes... I do, so I might pay attention to this title. But really: what game that is based on a movie (series) has ever turned out to be good? At the moment I'd have to answer 'none'.

Lucasarts: X-Wing, Tie Fighter.
Of course cockpit-level space and flight sims are almost a dead genre now, so maybe that doesn't count. And those weren't really plot-based... just took the minimum elements from the films to make a fun tactical combat sim.
I smell greed more than creativity with this Ghostbusters idea, but if guys like Harold Ramis are actually going to be involved in writing it (which is the first info I heard elsewhere), and not just phoning in a voiceover, then it might be worth looking at. A CGI Sigourney Weaver might be worth looking at too. :beam:

Yeah there was a video for GB on Youtube but got yanked by Sony or whoever had the rights now, it looked pretty cool from what I heard.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters_%28franchise%29#Video_games
Ghostbusters is an upcoming video game for Xbox 360,PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS and PC. A release date has not yet been set. ZootFly, the company making the game, began developing the game in May 2006 but hit a "bump in the road" with regard to the Ghostbusters copyright in July 2006.[38][39] Dan Aykroyd told The Edmonton Sun that Universal has acquired the rights to make the game and that he would be doing motion capture for the game in 2008. It has not yet announced who would be publishing the game.[40] The game is thought to be in a Gears of War-style that is grittier than previous Ghostbusters games.[41] Due to the possibility continual copyright difficulties, ZootFly has been concentrating on developing a Ghostbusters-inspired game which features many elements based on or seen in the promotional movies.[39] Dan Aykroyd mentioned the upcoming game on Breakfast television (City TV Toronto 8:30 Eastern Sept 21 2007) stating it will be based on the plot of the third proposed movie. On the 2007 Belgian F.A.C.T.S. convention, Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson confirmed to have been approached to record his voice in the new game.
Now whether or not this new game is the revival of that one, or a new one altogether, who knows.

The magazine Gameinformer has about a six page spread on the game, I did not get to read most of it, but it had an interview with Dan Ackroyd who stated that he and Harrold Ramis wrote the story to the game and will be doing voice work for it as well, he further stated that everything he wished he could of done in a third movie will be in this game.
Well, the only good games based on movie (series) I can think of right now are ones like Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Knight. But these are not REALLY like the movie but well-made variations on their own.
Take a look at Shrek: ARRRGH! Terrible stuff. Even though Aykroyd -- what the hell kind of name is that -- and whoever the hell's gonna partake in the game's creation, I don't think it'll be good. There should be a law forbidding the creation of any video game based on a movie unless the creators will do excellent work. For that matter, there should be a law forbidding the creation of any product unless it is or will be good.
Oh dear god. The last time I played a ghostbusters game, it included on of the most evil pieces of impossible gameplay of that generation.

Maybe it will break the mold... There are aways exceptions to the rules...
Tomb Raider broke the rule for movies based on games being bad...
And the Star War's series of games have mostly avoided the pitfalls... With the only games really based on the movies (the lego ones) really being pretty good...
If any game stands a chance, then it must be a next-gen Ghost Busters with the orginal creative team, writers and voice cast plus Sony's backing...
It has the orginal four main actors/characters:
Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz), Harold Ramis (Dr. Egon Spengler), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddmore)
Plus William Atherton comes back as Walter Peck...
The story is set in 1991 (3 years after the last movie) and the Ghostbusters are now very successful, but extremely busy so are looking to start frachising. This is where Walter Peck comes back as the city official in charge of deciding on there franchise application...
The player is a new 5th member of the team...
You get to revisit some classic scenes including the library and the hotel/ballroom from the first film...
I read no mention of Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis or Annie Potts
However Wiki states:
Brian Doyle Murray (as the team's psychiatrist, who may be the same character he played in Ghostbusters II) and Annie Potts (Janine) have also signed on. [2] [3]
...
Oh come on, they all stand a chance. It's just that this chance is usually not that big :laugh4:
Looking at the arguments you give for this supposedly increased chance, I must say it doesn't look like it really IS that much greater. The main rule that easily overrides the others still exists: games based on movies usually are rubbish.
And though it is actually irrelevant, I still want to respond to it and say that Tomb Raider is one big piece of **** :laugh4: With every new installment her lucious boobs are enlarged and her physique generally shaped better, and she generally looks wetter and wetter, and those are about the only good things I notice about this game series. And the movie.... HAH! Rubbish. All copies of Tomb Raider movies should be collected into a mountain and then perish. You are under my remote mind control. Go forth, warrior, to seek and destroy all TR movies :saint:
Okay okay, I'll admit I will see about it. If it turns out to be a great video game -- GB -- then alright... if it's not, you owe me one billion euros. Deal? ;)

Hands on with GB at ComiCon with one of the devs.
Atleast Hudson is in.
That's a major improvement over the previous games.
Uh oh...
Activision cans Ghostbusters game (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/activision-cans-ghostbusters-game)
Activision Blizzard has submitted its latest release schedule with no mention of forthcoming title from Terminal Reality, Ghostbusters, 50: Cent: Blood on the Sand from Swordfish or Double Fine's Brutal Legend.
I'd like to think that just because it's not in their release schedule doesn't mean it's canceled, but this news certainly isn't encouraging. :sweatdrop:
I think they will have no trouble finding another publisher along with Brutal Legend.
The game looked good and made people think of the lovely 80's which is always nice.

Yeah it seems it might get delayed while they find a new publisher but I'm sure that wont be hard either since it sounds like a definite money maker.

The game was made before the movie.
We're talking about games that were made after a movie.

Ghostbusters is still a product of the 80's:2thumbsup:

Rumor has it that the game will be pushed back to June of 09 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the first movie.

Or you can watch it in HD without signing up (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43328.html).
Not sure what to think of this or how they are going to make teamplay work, I mean will it be like a shooter, shooter with AI comrades, point and click adventure, RPG or?

Wii preview (http://wii.ign.com/articles/935/935419p1.html)
The Wii version seems more coop orientated while the other versions might be more SP.
The MP rumors have been an eight player game where you pick one of the GB's and compete against another team to trap ghosts. But since the future of the game was up in the air until only recently, there isn't a lot of info out there.
Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/joystiq-hands-on-ghostbusters-ps3-360-wii/) also seems to prefer the Wii version.
At this point, our pick for the best-playing version goes to the Wii, hands-down.
It's refreshing to hear that a Wii port may actually be the more desirable of the 3. :smash:

I installed it last night.
It was only $30 US and so far worth every penney. The voice acting is first rate (as one might expect) and the sound track is original music so if you like the film as much as I do you can't go wrong. Busting ghosts with Venckman, Stantz and Spengler is a real hoot.
