Unable to patch to 1.2

I tried patching to 1.2 but I get error "Error: unknown. Update cannot be continued." right when its supposed to start patching files and then the program shuts down. I tried uninstalling M2TW, deleting its folder, then installing it again but I just get the same error.

The bugs render the game unplayable for me on retail version. A lot of siege fights the CPU armies just stand and do nothing so I can't play without the patch.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Are you going from a fresh install of M2 to 1.2? That's how you're supposed to do it IIRC.

Its no better with 1.2. AI is still 80% passive in sieges and otherwise acts stupid.

As for how to patch 1.2, there is a wealth of instructions on it. Try the search function. I know that I posted the same instructions several times before, but its been a while. I think the Apothecary is a good place to start.
