Navigating map

while the manual says u can use the number pad keys 1 and 3 to move camera sideways WITHOUT panning - these keys do not work on my machine (nor do the the normal keys 1 and 3)

Is there the someting im missing? not being able to moved sideways is a real drag.

On the numpad:

4, 6: move the trategy map sideway. Side arrow keys should work the same.

2, 8: move the trategy map up down. Up/down arrow keys should work too.

1, 3: zoom in/out the trategy map. Also can use the mouse wheel.

Mouse wheel: move up/down info list in the trategy map (I've never tried this). Change the elevation of the camera on the battle field.
