View Full Version : Which buildings give valour bonuses?

I understand that upgrade to unit producing buildings give (should give) bonuses to the valour of units built there. What however happens if a unit requires two or more buildings (e.g. Feudal Knights)? Do all three have to be upgraded before the bonus is applied, or is there one 'key' building that determines this?

Actually, if we could see the bonuses of the new unit BEFORE we create it that would be really great! I am sure this is doable, since you can see it afterwards (weapon, armour, valour), so why not show this when we right-click on a unit before building it?

No the Church gives Morale, as does the Cathedral. How much I'm unsure of.

Arkatreides, I understand you and feel with you, but this is nothing you should dabble with right now, there is a great bug in the buildings. They don't give Valour as they should, some units gets it from a few buildings (Workshop but perhaps not Master) and several don't get it at all.
I think this is being addressed in the patch.

I do wonder too what building are supposed to give those 'several building units' their Valour. But I guess that the Horse Breeder is he one for mounted units in general.

can someone give me a mods email, i've converted that document to pdf (it's 46 pages http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif) and formatted quite nicely automatically.....i'll post it to the mod, and he can host.....

also, once it's up, if someone can send a message on the other forum, as i've not got an account there, and hate registering multiple places..

ps i take no credit for the information within the file, all i've done is convert if from xls to pdf for easier reading....kudos to the author

cheers

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I am looking at the file now. It looks promising - i.e. modable to perform as it should.

Well, I looked in the buildings data file, trying to fix the valour 'bug'. Unfortunately it is not that easy as you cannot specify a valour level for just one type of unit. If a building adds valour, it adds it to EVERY unit, so ...

The only thing I can do is like the valour bonus to something neutral, like perhaps the size of the castle or one of the buildings that give titles.

Yeah, I had the same problem trying to fix buildings. Because valor is so powerful, if you aren't very careful, you end up throwing off the whole balance of the game. Finally I decided the only thing I could do was eliminate valor bonuses completely. That worked it terms of balance, but it means that there's no point in building "master" level buildings in most cases, which is too bad.

I'm not sure this is a problem we modders can handle. We may have to wait for the big boys to fix this one. If anyone has come up with a modded solution that seems to work, I'd love to hear it...

Well, all my attempts to do anything sensible in the buildings file regarding valour have failed miserably. Somehow it lacks consistency, even if I attach it to the castles ... dunno why.

EUREKA! I got it!

There is an entry Dojo advantage in the unit stats file. If you both add valour upgrades to buildings AND put the relevant building type here, it works!!!

Hmmm ... still not working 100% like it should ... maybe I *should* wait till the patch comes out

Perhaps, but by keeping this alive you might get some help. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
