lol dd,
sounds like one of mine where i went from poland to that longish province north of it and back and forth. think of it as a tourist expedition that doesnt give any income ;)
overall, i love the crusades, but there are some routing problems with some of them. hopefully, this will be resolved in the patches.

Aye - makes you somewhat suspicious also when its hoovering North_South along your border provinces instead of heading East to its destination.
The thing had gone up to a 2700+ army of VERY good forces is the other thing - wish it'd been mine ;-/

Re the other post on crusade moving back and forth, this problem has been fixed. The probelm was due to the path finding routine return a shortest path by land only and a shortest path including sea route both as valid next step for a crusade. Now once a crusade decided to use the path including sea route, it'll be committed to include sea routes until it reaches a point where a land path is actually closer.
DD, you can send you zipped save game to medievalcrashes@hotmail.com for us to try our solution out.

What about Crusades lauched against non-excommed factions? I have some screenshots of that, but I haven't got a proper viewer so I can't see which ones are shots I took.
I'll send them, ok?

That is to do with a dead pope's memory being carry forward to the fresh pope. Once a pope had asked for support against a faction, the request stays in place until someone takes up the offer or when a new request is issued no matter waht happens to the pope/faction in question. Now fixed.

If I'm playing the Byzantine player, would the game notify me of crusades that occur? In all the time I've played the game, there has only been one crusade and that one was aimed at me.

*i dont have the game yet*
you can have crusades launched AGAINST you?
is that only if you are muslim.. lol
Yes, as Byzants you get a notice if a Crusade/Jihad is launched against you. I usually scare them away with large armies on my border http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

actually, if you are catholic, but piss off the pope and get excommunicated, the pope will actually call for crusades to be made against YOU. you dont just have to be muslim.
and yes, a crusade can get 'scared off', but what results is that usually the crusade doesnt run away, it simply bogs down trying to recruit more troops. this usually results in just the opposite, though, for zeal tends to waver and start running pretty low, so the whole thing like sorta falls apart.
the crusades and jihads are a VERY important factor in the game. in fact, they originally named the game "Crusades: Total War" and then later changed it. so, dont underestimate their worth or power.

And Crusades are great fun too. I love them.
And it is real good to know that we won't see Crusades against former Excommed factions. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
