PSYCHO HOJO / PSYCHO SO
i was thinking the same thing... there is nothing wrse than having them war you, and you cant do squat in return
Playing as the Germans, the French were excommunicated - the Pope even calling for all Christians to take up arms against them. Happy to oblige His Holiness I took two French provinces only to get a Papal warning then an excommunication for attacking a Christian country. There was no announcement to indicate that the French were back in the fold.
Where are countries' "excommunication status'" indicated?
In the "ally/ennemy panel":
a cross : non excommunicated
a broken cross : excommunicated.
Correct me if I am wrong.

This happens to me a lot, Pope excommunicates a faction, I declare a crusade on offending faction, by the time I get there, sometimes only a couple of moves after the declaration by the Pope, the offenders have made nicey nicey with the Pope. One time I was one province away and getting ready to strike the excommunicated Italians. I was in a German province with my crusaders and I get the message that the target province has been returned into christian hands, your crusade has been disbanded. The next turn I get another message that the Germans will be glad to ransom back my army and level 7 general for 3000 florins. Nice con lol.

Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so that they look forward to making the trip.
There should be a notice for all when the Pope dies (I think it is there but I have yet to notice).
And take care if the faction you want to attack has just lost their king, then that faction will be back in the fold.

BTW, Danish Crusades are true to history.
You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
