Names causing CTD

Hello,
Would the entry of the same name twice in the names text and descr lookup files cause CTDs does anyone know?

Names can cause CTDs, yes. The lookup is not parsed and it won't affect your game, but the text/names.txt should only have each name once, even if it appears for different factions.
