You're probably sick of this question by now but are Cretan Archers factional troops for KH?
Get the recruitment viewer, then you can check it out yourself. :yes:
from a quick look on the viewer it apperas that KH dont get them even if the control crete. This may be an overseight, or the recruitment viewer might be wrong. the best way to check is to use the console cheats for money and completing building (and if necessary to conquer crete the auto win cheat) to check what is available.
the cheats are as follows:
add_money ...........
process_cq ........
auto_win attacker/(defender)
Don't worry, since I asked the question I was ablre to get them, it seems they are factional.

Then after looking around & seeing if other factions get them (I know that Getai do for sure), I saw this:
KH gets them with a level 4 factional MIC in Krete.I think its something about the first faction/province you check in recruitment viewer, like it doesn't load all the details first time you look or something.

What? You can always check what province You have selected in the status bar.
It will say Province Selected: Province Name
Hmm... I guess that must be it, its working ok for me now :oops:
Couldn't you have highlighted the border of the selected province instead of having that bit at the bottom?

You probably need to scroll down using the scrollbars on the side of the window: scrolling with the mousewheel doesn't work; it'll select a different (or no) unit.

I do see how you got the province selected but its not the same thing I was talking about.

Hi all, first post and first EB campaign (as Casse VH/Med)
Its not what you asked but you may like to know that according to the recruitment viewer (and I confirmed stats in custom battles) Kretan archers are overrated anyway. Bosphoran archers have more range (180 vs 165), nearly 2x more ammo, better stamina and more armour. They also have a density of 1.
The only downside is that they do -1 damage than Kretan archers.
If both archers had say 5 experience then that that would only be a difference of 11 vs 10 damage in favour of Kretans, meanwhile they are still outranged among the other disadvantages.
Also good are Scythian Foot archers who are unarmoured but there are 160 of them so thats 33% more arrows landing than the 120 Kretans at only -1 damage penalty.
Both can be trained cheaply in Mikra Scythia along with some other great troops
That sounds a little dry and boring but Ive been cheating a bit by peeking at the recruitment viewer to plan which cities to take with my bunch of unwashed Casse, now that Ive arrived at the Med (Tolosa) and opened up some juicy options!
Oh, for sure. Bosphoran archers are awesome :yes:

They aren't as overpowered as Toxotai though. :) Those things are so broken, they've ruined the game for me. I mean, one units of toxotai can rout a whole army of Cataphracts! Seriously, what were you thinking of guys? :-p

Horses for courses guys and on a European campaign which involves large numbers with little or no armour, archers dont look so bad, I just want to give them a try and Bosphorans could turn the tide in melee at a pinch. I think Ill go for horse archers anyway because they fire into the enemys rear plus charge and chase routers.
Without having used archers Id guess slingers are still better overall because of the AP.
They both gain experience quickly too because of the huge numbers they wipe out in sieges.
