The High and Late Royal knights replace the Early ones on the build screen but I have been unable to upgrade my existing troops to the new standard. Is there a way to do this?

I was wonder that too...hmm...
P.
Very good question indeed... Anyone know ???
For now, the answer is NO. Also apply for Ghulam Guard. Wait for the patch.
Or some one has to try to mod it by changing the "APPLICABLE_PERIODS" from "EARLY" to "EARLY,HIGH" (available in "HIGH" so you can upgrade EARLY to HIGH). Then change "HIGH" to "HIGH,LATE" (available in "LATE" so you can upgrade HIGH to LATE). Easy enough, I guess.

Yes, but you still won't be able to actually 'upgrade' them. Only restock their ranks.
True, because they are different troop class and have different type of amour. I don't know how to get around that.
Anyway, I keep the test mod I just made. At least, I can replenish and give the weapon/amour upgrade to my 8 command former prince. He'll be back to the Holyland Campaign and kick some more Egyptian @$$.
Back to play MTW.
Still no solution for this one ? Or dev's comment ?
Da Count, I have been feeling friendly today so I have copied this from the Patch SP thread.

Oh alright, new stuff:
Royal knights and such upgradable.
Rebellions tweaked, no ultra advance troops, but expect more lesser troops.
Tweaked fleet AI.
Keys to toggle enemy/own/spies/armies pieces.
Brother of a King shown as sons if he didn't come of age before succession, fixed
Already mentioned stuff:
"Loyalty traffic light" fixed.
Fleets escaping from a sea battle.
Multiple famine in the same region in the same turn.
Crusade path finding.
Win2k/XP crash.
Made the siege time of castle longer.
Cap the number of artillery in a rebellion.
No more income from besieged region.
Trible support cost for besieging army.
Extra cheats
Things that will not be in:
Sorting of lists.
Multiplayer campaign. :P
Playable fleet battle.
That's all I can remember off the tp of my head.
