TAX them like the dirty slaves they are. We're talking between 90%-110% on all provinces! And if you have extra troops sitting around, set a particularly rebellious province to VERY HIGH then pull out ALL your troops. When they revolt, send in your army and crush them. Keep building troops to replace your losses and do this over and over and over. Soon your general will gain high rank and sport virtues that add to his rank while defending. On top of that you get paid cash-money for confiscated lands AND you improve the valour of your (surviving) troops!

Just wondering if you guys are working a fix to stop this kind of "Quirk" exploitation?

When, (see how optimistic I am) MP Campaign is implented this will be considered CHEATING.

Just thought I'd bring this to your attention, as a number of people are using this technique to beat the AI.

As if the AI isn't beatable play the straight up!!!

Hmm IF we ever get MP campaigns (just beeing sceptical realistic) I don't mind this. You can also see it this way, the time you opponent takes to train his army this way, you can train your army also, but by conquest, thus not only giving XP, but also valuable land (thus more income etc etc).
And besides that i wouldn't play such a long game with someone i dont know and/or we discussed some basic rules before.

I mean you can also say that killing your own emmisionaries with your assasins to train them is cheating... etc etc. I'm sure loads of things to abuse to find for the creative mind. But i don't play with abusers, and nor should anyone else, or you will waste a lot of time on such a game wich you very likely will never finish...

Anyway just my 2 cents http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Uh, multiplayer campaigns would be ridiculously much to code (probably an entirely new game) and would be pretty boring, especially when you're waiting for another player to fight a battle with an AI faction and you just have to sit there for 45mins to an hour while he fights or whatever.

Basically, comes back to the age old solution that should be the first stop for all major strategy games PBEM.

Its the only way to make em feasible.

They could somehow make it viable to play your turns at the same time (like in the very good Age Of Wonders 2). Or at least make it so that while one player moves the others can look at all their units/provinces. And ofcourse with a timer so you can limit the time someone uses per turn.
Also an option like 'always autobattle' between ai and player, and only do full battle between players could be helpfull..

I'm really looking for this mode as i and some friends joine once a week to play online, and for sure if MTW is mp we will play it, even if it takes like 2 months to finish a game. But as it stands now, the first guy already dropped MTW as he got bored without multiplay http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

The game is already geared towards simultaneous turn planning and resolution, so that part would not be a huge deal. Auto resolving AI-player battles would definitely be the way to go.

As a 2-player game it would be awesome. With more obviously it will seriously slow down.

JRock: What you find boring, many of the more strategy-minded types around here find FUN. I'm talking about people like me, who gladly invested 40+ hours in a short game of multiplayer civ2 (which had SEQUENTIAL turns, not even SIMULTANEOUS) and even more in games of moo2.

Online tactical battles are interesting and fun from a "twitch" standpoint, but they beocme infinitely more deep and interesting within a larger strategic context.
