View Full Version : Temples... Should there be more than 1 per city?

I just posted this in another thread so i shall paste it here:

I think a different system for temples is needed. Cities didn't have just 1 temple to 1 god in them, especially the Romans.

I'm not saying i have any suggestions on how to better the current system or anything, i'm just saying i think something different is needed. The other alternative is the multiple temples mod... not sure if it's compatible with EB (pretty certain it won't be actually) but i didn't like that, each temple gave its own bonuses and you could end up with every city having 200% loyalty which isn't right.

Perhaps an extra building which represents all the other temples you can build and gives 5% loyalty or something but cannot be upgraded or anything, just a single-tier, one-off building. Wouldn't make much difference i know but still, makes the whole thing feel even more realistic.

What does everyone think about that?

I think it would be
a) Wonderful to have more temples;
b) Create too many bonuses per city: they would accumulate way too fast;
c) Not worth the extra building slots it cost if this created a hardcoded limits problem otherwise.

(Mind you Temples are a bit odd in that sense that the engine only allows one such structure in the city (just like the governor's palace- there can't exist 2 of them in any given location at any given time either). Mods that incorporate multiple temples in one city therefore have to make do with less building slots available elsewhere.)

Maybe just 1 extra building then to represent all the temples there would be in the city that can be built at say, 6,000 population. In my Roman campaign i always build temples to (i think) Minerva, because it gives the most bonuses to happiness and law, but it doesn't feel right just having 1 temple in each city.

Well, some time ago, I played another RTW mod (maybe I.B.F.D.) and it used the following system:

- a city has its main temple/god
=> up to max. level, AND

- the same city can build "smaller" temples to ALL the other gods
=> up to level 2 and giving less boni than a "regular" temple.

I've found that an interesting idea.

P.S. this is a cpoy/past of my answer to another thread.

Maybe a compromise would satisfy:

why not kinda "rename" the actual "temples of XYZ" into "pantheon temples, deity XYZ favoured"? Well, it should be a more eloquent name, but the main idea is, that a religious building includes all deities, and that a certain god is favoured over the rest.

I always build a temple to Ceres. Because of the trade bonuses and the fact that it helps with the Marian Reforms (or so I'm told).

Well, by the time you've conquered southern Italy and all of Sicily and built farms, roads and ports there is so much money coming in that you have to give tens of thousands away each turn to stop your family members becoming even more retarded that they already generally are. I usually use it to fund the Makedonians, and to a lesser extent KH and Epeiros so that no single faction unites the entire Greek peninsula... Those guys are a real nightmare to conquer with Polybian legions when they have those chainmail hoplites and elite phalanxes.

As I know of geto-dacians they were monotheist(were believing in one god Zalmoxis) so as I play Getai I prefer a single temple in a city. :beam:

Yes, I deffinetly think there should be. Indeed I have toyed with the idea of producing a min-mod myself, but never got round to it.

I did have an idea but I can't be bothered explaining it now... to tired.... maybe tommorow.... *yawn*

If anyone is interested in producing a mini mod, I'll be willling to lend a hand once I get a new comp.

I believe the team has stated before that if so much work hadn't already gone into the Roman temples, they would have changed them to complexes. I also thought there were plans to make them like that in EB2. Could be wrong though.
