View Full Version : Crashes after drunken editing

I had decided to add a name to the Roman faction names on descr_names file the other night after a few beers. I saved what I changed and started a new campaign. I forgot to delete the map.rwm!

After a few turns, it crashed during the AI turns.

I eventually deleted the map.rwm. I have installed all the fixes from 1.0 fixes you should try before posting and these have not fixed the CTD.

Here is a link for my savegame:- http://www.axifile.com?5990045

I am playing EB 1.0.

The crash does not occur on a set year or time, it occurs a few turns after I reload. As far as I'm aware, there is nothing glaringly obvious that is happening to cause this crash. The AI is taking it's turn.

Could anyone give me any hints as to what I have done wrong (other than mess with things whilst inebriated)?

If there is anything else I need to add, please don't hesitate to tell.

From the EB TAVERN

I don't have my installer on my computer anymore, I deleted it to save space.

School boy error!

Do you have a good DL speed i can make a rar file of all the original .txt files from the EB/data folder if you like

ps as you said before in the tavern if you change a character name i think the game will crash when that guy get's a trait

Did you add the name to names.txt in the eb/data/text folder?

It's decent enough yeah. If it means I don't need to uninstall and download it again, it would be much appreciated.

No I'm pretty sure I added it to eb/data/descr_names something or other. I will have to check when I get back from work though.

Serves me right for meddling in things that don't concern me. :wall:

yes make sure you added the name in EB/data/descr_names.txt and in EB/data/text/names.txt. In the names.txt it's savest to copy/paste one line and then overwrite the name (on both sides)...

Here you have all the original txt files from the root of the EB/Data folder

So if I unzip this to my eb/data folder it will over-write my inebriated fumblings?

bovi

Yes. It will also potentially overwrite some of the applied fixes depending on which versions he packed.

Unzip it in a folder on your desktop and then copy paste it to your RTW EB DATA folder

they are from this destination on my computer

Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\Data

You can look for yourself what files you chanced by looking at the dates the files are created and then replace the txt files that are created/chanced when you were drunk

So, just to be sure, I will unzip that file. Then install all the other fixes I had again?

Will any bad things happen from this?

These are the original files from my first EB10 download

Yes, Bovi is right if you had one of Bovi's fixes installed you have top install them again also after that!!!!

Thank you all!

I will sort this out when I get back from work.

I will give the clever stuff a wide bearth from now on, and leave it to people who know what they're doing.

Right then. I have unzipped the file that Sassem very kindly uploaded.

I then went on to install all the other fixes I usually play with ie MAAs City Mod, Force Diplomacy and all the other EB 1.0 fixes.

I loaded my old Romani campaign and found that I am unable to recruit an army at all now. I assumed that one or more of the fixes is not save-game compatable.

I started a new game. Or at least, I tried to. After I picked which faction I was to lead to glory, I clicked on the continue arrow. Instead of going to the campaign map to play the game. It returned me to the campaign options menu.

All in all, EB is knackered on my computer. Time to uninstall and try again methinks.

Thanks for trying to help, everyone.
