This is a rather strange story. Recently in my Romani game I started to notice that my ships were moving abnormally slowly, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out why.

Then I realised - some years before, I got a Flash Flood message. It was a particularly strange message, since I thought it had said that it had affected "The Sea" but I had closed the box without properly looking at it so couldn't be sure. But now, with the known RTW engine bug about units permanently moving slowly through provinces that had been flooded (and the sea is technically a province) it makes sense why this is happening.

Anyone else encountered this problem? What's the strangest disaster occurrance you've encountered?

This sounds like a bug I don't know if "The Sea" is supposed to be affected by floods (I mean it clearly can't :laugh4: but I don't know if it can be prevented via modding)

I guess I know why it happened. Probably, someone researched coordinates where flash floods are known to happen, and used for instance some "fish" resource locations as a suitable spot. Since some of those locations are (even though they are displayed on land) part of the Sea province...

And this is not quickly fixed because the code doesn't come with comments. Besides since the entire flood disasters thing is unsupported anyway (because it may create a 'permanently' flooded province - a bug we haven't quite figured out yet and may very well be related to the enigne too)...

I researched all the flood locations and am pretty sure they are all on land. Maybe one was on a river delta that was technically sea though. My advice is to try renaming map.rwm and see if that 'resets' your map - it seems to work sometimes but not always. I'd keep the file as a different name instead of deleting it though, just in case something odd happens. The floods shouldnt' happen unless you turn them 'on' though - they are disabled every way we know how in the current release.

I also had a flood in the sea but had no problems as a result. I sometimes deleate the map. file

I was reported a flash flood in Eremos (African part) quite a few turns ago. It wasn't permanent. Oh, and I didn't turn on anything. :kiss2:

it happens once per game for me and all i had to do was delete the map.rwm in C:\Program Files\Activision\EB1.0\EB\Data\world\maps\base

If you have a Family Member in the ships being transported then they will have an effect on the ships movement speed in Winter, if they are sick, or if they have attributes that limit movement.

I'm quite aware of this, but thanks ~;) Even so, there are ways around having slow family members on board slowing down your fleets...

Thanks guys, I'll try renaming map.rwm. I keep forgetting about that, it fixed the last problem I had in this campaign...

Or, compensate by looking in the scriptorium for Mayardralls (SP?!?) guide to increasing ship movment. I personaly use it all the time, but even if you don't do that, it will be just the thing you need for this.
