I finally got around to playing as Byzantium in the Crusades campaign and had taken all of modern-day Turkey and the Caucasus area. When 1347 started to approach I took my usual approach of moving all my agents and generals out of cities and prepared to wait out the plague. Surprisingly, although I got the usual messages from the game telling me about the outbreak of the plague, NONE of my cites were infected. I had spies throughout the rest of the map that showed that Syria, Palestine, and Egypt all were suffering from the ravages of the plague, but not my areas. Is this intentional, or a game bug? I've never read anything about the Byzantine empire not being as affected by the plague as the rest of Europe.

Could be sheer luck, since in my turkish kingdoms campaign some of the cities around palestine and arabia never got infected.

you're lucky i guess. in mine, ALL except 3 provinces of mine are infected. and so far as i can tell, all of middle east as well.
the 3 provinces are Edinburgh, Timbuktu and Arjiun. Inverness got the plague too. so it is JUST purely luck. even most of the eastern europeans (russian terrotories) got infected too.
it will be funny to see a weakened fraction got wiped out by the plague but.
i might add that while i know about the plague, i have totally forgotten it - so it is just as well that i always uses my generals as military commanders, so 90% of them are out in field with their armies. so i wasnt really affected, beyond the fact that i was unable to take the cities straight away due to plague and no reinforcements except for mercenaries.

He's talking about the CRUSADES campaign in KINGDOMS guys, not the regular meat and potatoes (non expansion). Also, i've seen some similar situations as the OP, where only some remote places get the Plague.

I guess just a bit of off-topic is ok...awesome Korean skills by the way :2thumbsup:
I don't think the gae ma ki byung received attention from scholars outside of Korea and China yet; especially since its been such a long time and only evidences are:
a) armor pieces (a whole gavesite just for barding was found in Korea)
b) relief that show fully armored cavalry advancing under support fire of cavalry archers
Here's a quick illustration that attempts to depict the Goguryeo-Sui war:
http://pds6.egloos.com/pds/200711/28/24/c0078924_474d25d53aa63.jpg
The green is the Sui army of spears/cavalry, and the black armor is the Goguryeo gae ma ki byuing/ horse archer. Note the distinctive hats...
After the fall of Goguryeo, factions that had foothold in the peninsula lost manchuria, losing fields to raise heavy cavalry. Military options changed to ponies from Jejudo (the mongols requested tribute of jeju ponies for their horse archers after their conquest of Korea) and archer/spear based army, as the peninsual is mostly mountains and not a lot of open field for cavalry action.
I believe there have been academic works comparing cataphracts and eastern gae ma ki byung since they appear round a very similar timeframe.
