View Full Version : Ceres the best god??

Hi, Im playing the new EB as the Romans and i think that Ceres is the best god to have in my cities. My economy is mainly based on coastal trade around Italy, Iberia, Western North Africa and Greece. Is it worth destroying all my temples and building new ones dedicated to Ceres to get the trade bonus? On the basis that a strong economy props up a strong military. Is the extra trade income worth more than the bonus' from other gods in the long run?
First Post Whooooo! :charge:
If you own all of that you should be bringing in 50k a turn anyway. I purposely avoid building temples to ceres because the game becomes boring when the only worry you have is stacking Capua up with 10 of the most expensive navy vessels because you have absurd amounts of money coming in.
Not to mention the horrible traits your family members get when you have a tons of gold.

It is true that Cerses is the most efficent, though.

I use 3 gods: Ceres for coastal cities to boost economy, Mars for militarized cities to boost morale stats, and Jupiter for Rome and far outlying cities that needs a public order boost.

You do realise morale bonus only ever aplied to the troops that were curently in the province, and it is broken now anyway?
There are other temples that level off at trade base income 4 besides Ceres, the Carthies get one and Pahlava and KH, possibly more got bored of looking in the EDB. The Romans are not that difficult of a faction economically so if you feel Ceres will bring you too much money, you can build it only on Sicily and/or other places that had great agriculture, it's fun to mix the gods and find out their effects at the top level, they almost never disappoint...

I think he is asking is Cerses the best roman god, not the best overall.
Incedentaly, my personal overall favourite is the Makedonian Zeus.

Yea Pharnakes that was my main aim to see if ceres was the best roman god, im sure there are better gods for other factions, but i'v only tried the romans so far, im new to EB. So much better than the original RTW

Don't wanna be a nitpicker, but Ceres is a goddess, not a god ;-).

Do you have a reference for this?
Where would I look to find the bonuses the various temples give?
Thanks,

Hmm, no, but I'm sure I have read from a creditable source that its broken since 1.5.
Maybe one of the EDB threads in the scriptorium?
Sorry it was a while ago, so I can't remember now, but I do remember reading it, and thinking that I would trust whoever it was that wrote it.
Sorry
EDIT:woirble, the only way to do it really is to trawl through the edb, hellish thing to do in eb.
Incedentaly, my personal overall favourite is the Makedonian Zeus.
What bonuses does he give?

Can't remember the specifics, but he is a nice all-rounder.
What's this story about morale bonus being broken, so temples and wonders that give +morale don't actually give any morale bonus to your newly trained units?
That.. sucks. I always had special recruitment towns, and plus it makes a lot of wonders worse.

Personally, I prefer temples with Law bonuses, at least in regions far from my capital. It's a good way to combat the ridiculous amounts of corruption present in a huge empire; where trade bonuses may net you another hundred or so per turn per settlement, a good Law bonus will cut out a huge amount from corruption as well as improving public order so you can tax them more ~;)
I usually use the temple to the "bigger" god to the faction. I believe that means Jupiter for Romanii and Zeus for KH.

Juno
extreme population bonus
Population = Increased Tax Income and more units to draft and more advanced buildings?
trade income = trade income?
so there you have it
if they had a god or goddess that is roman that gives exp bonus then that would be first then population bonus then public order
public order = higher acceptable taxes
Since you actually can't (or can you?) check if a unit has morale bonuses and everyone thinks they get them, it's safe to say it doesn't matter. If Pharnakes hadn't said anything (bad Pharnakes, bad) no one would even be questioning that, since morale bonuses are very hard to actually notice.

Go to the building browser on the settlement screen ( little builders square icon) then right click on the various temples and the building description will give you the bonus details.
I usually click on the wonderous temple so you know the max you will get.
Is it really true that the morale bonus for Mars is broken? I always switch Rome from Jupiter to Mars.

That will only show you the details of all the levels except the last one.
Wehter the eb team do this to keep it a suprise, or whether it is like that because the building browser is stupid, IDK.

The in-game building browser issue is an unintentional side-effect of the way we handle buildings in EB. This is why we have our own "building browser" included with the EB 1.0 release. Print it in poster form and stick it on your wall. ~:)

Pharnakes, this is a very good thing to know if it is true. At the very least it's something that we can test. It also would explain what the heck that morale bonus is supposed to mean, which always struck me as a little bit odd.
It sounds like the morale bonus is intended as a settlement- or region-based bonus only, and applies to the faction which "owns" the unit. (Or was intended to do that.) That makes a lot more sense. We can test to see if it is broken, and if it is, how it is broken. If it's a useless bonus then that's something we'll need to run by the stat guys.

Yeah, just set a building with +50 morale and a unit that would otherwise have 1, and see what happens. I would do it myself, but I can't. Tell me what you find, would you please?
Wish I was I could join the eb team...
Damit, back to my pet gripe with the guild, why, why, isn't there a wistful smilie??!!:laugh4:

Wow, since Mars gives no actual morale bonuses to the troops, that means i need to tear down all my huge 12,000 Mars buildings in my millitary cities :(

I wonder if there is any Roman temple which gives away experience bonus to my freshly recruited troops... I think there was a Mars temple, but I can't remember if this was in vanilla RTW or in any other mod...would anybody be so kind as to enlighten me?

It was in RTW in EB temples of Mars should give a morale bonus, this is a hidden bonus as morale does not show on unit cards. However, it appears this feature is "broken" so I'm not sure if you get the bonus.

I suspect the morale bonuses do work to one level or another. From experience (no scientific testing i'm afraid, didn't realise it was in doubt) when troops are recruited in cities with multiple morale bonuses (temples/special buildings) they seem more enthusiastic on the field. i.e. I often have 'impetuous' troops as compared with 'eager' for troops from other regions. Seem harder to discourage also.
Could just be my imagination and terrain of the battle however :inquisitive:

So if the Romans don't get an experience bonus from temples, who does? And could I use that temple if I conquered a city with such a temple in it?
Thanks in advance!

Hayasdan, Awesome Temple of Anahit. Pretty lousy temple overall if morale bonuses don't work, but the experience bonus is nice. They can only get their top factional troops from a couple of cities anyway, and IIRC both start with Anahit.
Can anyone else use it? No. You'll notice that when you capture a city, the temple bonus immediately becomes whatever it is for your faction (Anahit probably maps to Mars, for Rome). I think governments work the same way, so you also wouldn't be able to cheat and repair a Seleucid I, III, or IV to get the experience bonus. You can however take Hellenic or Hai cities which have upgraded game fields (Gymnasion and House of Strength, respectively) to get an experience bonus to units trained there.
Otherwise, Romans have to earn their experience levels, just as they did historically.
