View Full Version : Deus Ex 3 announced
*sigh*
Here's the link to Eidos's site (http://www.eidosmontreal.com/en/games.html), no real info as of yet.
Neither Warren or Harvey are currently working on this. Given the total, utter flop that was DX:IW, and the current sad state of gaming with the PC being a distant afterthought, I'm not holding much hope for this. It would seem that nothing is sacred anymore.
Flame away folks. :tomato:

*facepalm*
As long they don't dumb-down the game for consoles (like they did with IW), it would be a great idea. I enjoyed IW, but only in the context that it was a Deus Ex game in name only.

I thought everyone got turned into happy collective-thought zombies in the canon ending?

The original Deus Ex? I know that two of the three endings are both canon (not sure about the third, haven't played IW in some time). Trying to figure out which ending is "more" canon is hell on earth. :book:

Crap, when I saw the thread title I thought this was a thread about good news... Sad if it'll be another dumbed down console-adapted title ~:(
I liked invisable war, the mood was spot on and the story was good enough to hook me from start to finish. It was a mistake to remove the grid system and stat-building but overal a good game. Not as good as the first, Deus ex was a masterpiece and these are very rare, but the best parts of IW, antartica in particular were absolutily awesome.
Hmm if IW was a massive departure from the first maybe I should try it. I hated Deus Ex.

You will probably hate IW even more then. What didn't you like about the first? It's an absolute masterpiece imho, even if it has flaws.
Keep in mind I played the xbox port 2002-ish. And I never got past the first couple of missions, for the following reasons.
-Story wasn't interesting, just cyber-punk garbage.
-Desgin asthetic being a Matrix rip-off, aka more cyber-punk garbage.
-Gameplay was tiresome, the rpg elements weren't bad but the multiple solutions to problems was poorly done. Granted that's near impossible to do really well.
It all led to a game that was just ick. IW main problem was that weird interface they came up with, but that could just have been the demo.
You should play the first if you can find it, seems like you played the second thinking it was the first, there is no x-box version of the firt Deus ex. That is good news for you, it is seriously a masterpiece.
I hated IW, but hopefully this will be good since that piece of *mod censored material* Warren isn't going to be involved.

Uh, wasn't Warren Spector the project director of Deus Ex? And producer of Thief 3 and System Shock? In other words, isn't it a shame he isn't working on it?
Bear in mind, Vuk, that Invisible War was much, much worse than Deus Ex, which is a masterpiece all gamers should play.

Oh no you didn't.

Wouldn't go so far as to say I liked Invisible War, but I certainly didn't think it a bad game. It just couldn't live up to the expectations raised by it's predecessor.
In IW the three endings were: 1) Everyone's noggins are zapped, making them all either super human or slave drones to a super computer. 2) the "Templars" seize power and go on a universal witch hunt, removing all biomods, and killing those who refuse to surrender them. 3) The Illuminati assume power, initiating world-government in some kind of dystopian utopia. and 4) The Omaaagh- *cough* *cough* *wheeze* -ar overthrow everyone, leave the world to tear itself apart, and go on to survive as the sole remnant of Humanity.
Any of them could make for a pretty good story line, tbh.
DX:IW was so horrible I couldn't even force myself to play it longer than 2 hours. Quite literally everything that made DX good, they screwed up in IW. Not to mention it's yet another poster child of a game that the PC was a complete afterthought and done halfarsed.
You really got to get over that. PC is a tertiary platform most of the time. And that's not changing anytime soon.

Nope it was the first one. No getting them mixed up. But it was on the PS2, Deux Ex: The Conspiracy (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/deusextheconspiracy/index.html).

You know Deus Ex was being worked on long before the Matrix was released right?
Read my second post in the thread. :whip: And that assertion is dubious at best.

IW sucked really badly. I believe it was also a flop financially due to hardly anyone buying it. IIRC the office of the team who made IW even closed down partially due to how much of a flop IW was. Since these comments are based on memory, feel free to correct any of the above information if it happens to be incorrect.
Anyhow, Deus Ex 3 announced doesn't mean much because it could very well turn out to be another trainwreck like IW. I'll get excited when and if the professional and end user reviews come out saying Deus Ex 3 is a good game like Deus Ex 1 was. Until then, not even worth hearing about the new game.
Console version sold pretty well, they didn't lose money on it but they did lose the pc crowd, quite deservingly so imo because they didn't even try to mask the fact that it was developed for the console.

Well, at least they were honest about it.

Save yourself the time and headache, and don't bother. Reviews are bought and paid for at the bigger sites. Don't believe me? Wait until Fallout 3 is released, I guarantee you that you'll see nothing less than 9/10 reviews, and people raving about how it's a "true successor to the fallout games" and "worthy of the title", when pretty much all it's going to be is a lame FPS. Same with Bioshock, just another uninspired FPS, with great ratings. Or any other number of highly hyped titles. If you want the real shtick, find someone who will buy the game and play their copy for a bit, or failing that, listen to the opinions of your friends whom you trust and value/share their views.

Dude, no s:daisy:. It's pretty obvious that in gamming reviews are on a 6-10 scale for big time devlopers, and a 1-10 scale for small time devs. I've read (and I'm sure you have too) reviews of big time games that had a massive hype machine behind them. And they guy doing it is clearly not blown away by the final product. In fact he has some heavy critisim. But at the end the score is 8 or 9. Ignore the score, that is bought and paid for by the games developer. Read the review, and base your judgements on that.
