View Full Version : Baktrian Early Bodyguard
Why don't they use their bow? It's right there by their side, why would you give them bows if they won't use them.

Having a bow was a design decision. If you look at Hetairoi Kataphraktoi, you will also find a bow. IIRC, it wasn't used as you could only have 2 weapons per unit, and the xyston/Kontos spear and kopis/long kopis sword combo was considered more important than the bow. If anything the bow is there to signify that the Hellenes of Baktria had "gone native" in applying heavy barding to their horses, practiced horse archery and had all the "trappings" of their nomad neighbours, while retaining their Hellenism.
Thanks for clearing that up and sorry If I sounded a bit angry but I've grown to love Horse Archers and seeing a cavalry unit like Baktrian Early Bodyguard makes me sad.

If you want to have Baktrian bodyguards with bows play RTR . There Baktrian bodyguard has bow and xyston .

To me that is the decision that makes most sense--if you have only two weapon slots, then the unit is obviously better modeled by having bow and lance, even if it means giving the lance stats that allow it to be used in melee as an abstraction for the kopis.
