I miss the concept of having specific areas where only certain units can be specially recruited or where specific units recruited there have a higher honour...

E.g. Swiss Pikemen in Switzerland in MTW, Cavalry in Shinano Province in STW...

I just felt it brought more character to the world map. It also gave me an incentive to WANT to capture a Honour-giving/Unit-producing province.

Sure, in M2TW, we get different trade goods and guilds, but it's just not the same... To me, a province is just another province, just different shades of green or brown, trees or no trees...

Sigh... Anyone else wanna commiserate with me?

Provinces in M2TW do get fairly indivdual merc recruitment ie: swiss pikes in alps, turkopoles etc in asia minor, but I agree it would be nice if for example if I captured milan I could recruit a city specfic militia (limit unit pool to 1 maybe).

Yep I remember in MTW going after Genoa to get crossbows and Trebizond to get archers. The Total Realism mods took this to an extreme, for example in RTR half your army would be made up of local troops depending on what regions you had.

In The Long Road there's some very nice regional troops as well.

Yeah, that was one of my favorite things to do in MTW1. Even if the troops were relatively useless when you could produce them (lit cav), I would still travel the map picking up provinces just for the troops.

My favorite unit was Celtic warriors, which were the cheapest most useful garrison you could find.

I used to bribe wales before England could take it just to pump out a horde of these buggers before the end of early.

reminsing about good old time in Shogun TW.
*DROOL*

it will be great if the conqueror of a region can produce/recruite those special troops. not in great number mind you, but it is reasonable to assume that the specialty in military arms of that regions doesnt die straight away.
