Mercenary Generals

Do recruitable mercenary generals get random character traits or the trails are determined by the city they are trained in?
I got a Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous General with 2 stars in Athens. Is it sheer lack or the educational building in Athens have something to do with it?

I have another question: is it possible to make him a family member? He conquered all Asia Minor for me (the Maks). I just love the guy!

I think there is a chance that he will ask to marry a daughter, if so you can except him, and he will become a family memeber. Dunno if his bodyguard will change or not.

How do you even get merc generals? I'm at 230 BCE and I still haven't seen a recruitable merc general in Italy.

Holy crap...I have level 3 regionals max cuz level 4s don't even give me any new units... :(

building lvl 5 regional MICs will carve a chunk out of my treasury since I've been blowing my money fighting uber alps eleuthoris... :(

However, I'm still curious if there is a way to increase the possibility to hire mercenary generals with good traits.
After all, I hire them, so I should be able to know how good they might be!

More importantly: given how much they costs, surely they have some experience and skill to justify their reputation and exorbitant financial demands?
