ive noticed that phalaxmen seem to be very shitty when not in a phalax. Many elite phalax's descriptions say they can do well while not on a phalax, but all the tests ive done show otherwise. i do not have my phalax still on guard mode when doing these tests. phalax is a special ability, not a requirment. how can elite units with great stats suck just because they are not using their special ability?
how come every general from another fraction i face has 5+ stars???
my generals get about 1 star per 3 battles they fight. so how on the second turn are there all these generals with 10 stars running around?????

Phalangites seem to work well out of formation, for me.
AI generals get extra stars to make them more challenging. You don't need stars for your generals be you are the general.

those stars are a pain in the ass cause you cant auto resolve battles, and some battles are just not fun to fight.
what phalax type are u using that work good? (sacred band, royal guard, ect)

To quote the FAQ (with a slight edit for adaptation):
AI has stars. You have brain.

but the stars dont actually make the general a better tactition, they just give his soldier a moral boost or somthing and make autoresolve go in his favour even tho his army his one third as powerful as mine. but my original question has been answered

for me the phalangites are really good when not in formation, maybe too much, probably for the high shield value
Another advantage is their big unit size. gives a nice edge over enemy infantry.
Oh, and if you réally don't want to fight a battle you can always auto_win.
Besides, auto-resolving is for sissies.

if phalax's do good when not in a phalax, why did the hellenic heavy spearmen win in my test of ptolemic royal guards vs hellneci heavy spearmen. the royal guards have way better stats.

Thorakitai (I think thats what you're talking about, I pay no attention to the english names for the greek units) are kinda elite in their own right, you know.
