Just to make things clear on the matter of unique units in the Crusades campaign :

The Crusader States (Antioch and Jerusalem) start the game with unique units such as the Constable of Jerusalem, Marshall of the Templars or the Canons of the Holy Sepulchre...

Howerver powerful those units might be, they are bouond to take some losses with the Jihad called from the beginning of the game...

So, how are those losses retrained ? Do I have to wait for the unit to slowly dwindle away a few men at a time until it is no more ?

If it becomes so small as to become useless, should I disband it so that I can recruit a new one or will it be lost foverever ?

Can they be recruited anytime (I understand there can only be one at a time) or is there some building required (plus owning Jerusalem or Antioch I gather) ?

All information is welcome...

Playing KoJ in my SP game, I have been able to retrain the Constable and Marshal in Kerak. I have read that they can be retrained in any castle. I have never been able to recruit another and have read that when they are totally gone, they are gone forever.

So, just keep retraining them and you'll get to keep them. :2thumbsup:

No problem! :D

The first time I played KoJ, I didn't know about the retraining and I ground my Constable unit into a little nub... :shame:

That is what i feared... It almost happened the first time around in the previous Hotseat campaign... And it is a major asset of the KOJ..

And it is a major asset of the KOJ..

Those two units are awesome. One is a double-strength heavy cav unit so thats 120 on the huge setting. The other is double hp so it's basically another unit of BG's but retrainable. :beam:

Antioch gets a "retrainable BG" unit as well. And their unique swordsmen are basically the equivalent of 120 Forlorn Hope on steroids (2 HP). :2thumbsup:

yep, so that's why I want to baby-sit those units to first-grade usefulness...

Once they got lost you can train them:

Antioch
Canons of the Holy Sepulcher require castle Armoury
Marshall of the Hospitallers require kings stables

Jerusalem
Marshall of the Templars require kings stables
Constable of Jerusalem require kings stables
Unfortunately the games broken b/c Jerusalem can't build a kings stable in the vanilla game. You can however retrain them.

If you let the AI do the recruiting you can have more than one. It is a bug. Apparently the training of the AI doesn't count as recruiting.
