These guys kick butt! Is there even better cavalry down the road because I'm still in the Camillian period?
In this particular battle the enemy tried to race me to the top of a hill so they could shower me with missiles from above but I intercepted him by "closing the T" and engaging their flank with missiles while they were still climbing, just like in classic naval battle.

Sorry to break it to you - but no there is no better cav avalible.
However, you can look foward to a selection of the crapest cav in the game as you hit the marians.
Equites Extraordinarii is some very seriously neat cavalry. All you get later on is assorted skirmisher cavalry or at a stretch medium cavalry - no new heavy cavalry headed your way, and you even lose the ability to recruit extraordinarii. The smart Roman player sets up some type 4 governments in Gaul to recruit Brihentin and such.

How dare you play as Rome?
Fortunately, you shall never get better than your ripped-off Xystophoroi!

yeah man those Eqvites Extraordinarie are sweet. HOWEVER, they are horsemen from the Italian provinces with Hellenic cavarly traditions + their own. And after your Marian reforms u ain't getting them no more. :smash:

What I do is have a lvl 5 Camillian MIC in Arpi and never upgrade it after the reforms (so I can recruit uber hoplite triaris + all the neat Saminite Infantry)
Then I have a lvl 5 Polybian MIC in Capua and never upgrade it after the reforms (so I can recruit all that Pedites and neat stuff + Polybian troops).
Then I just have full upgraded/new/Marian MICs in all my other provinces.

This is, you know, cheating?
And against the spirt of eb?
I thought that didn't work anyway, because the Polybian MICs will be destroyed every turn and replaced by a Marian equivalent.
Internautus -- what year is it in your campaign? You must have done some serious military industrialization as I have never seen equites extraordinarii in my own Romani campaigns before the Polybian reforms...
Or perhaps I'm woefully inadequate in building up my own MICs fast enough...?

You only need to upgrade the roma barracks twice to see them, should be able to do that in 30 years.

I'm around 210 BCE. I haven't hit of Marian reforms yet but that's what I plan to do so I get Camillan, Polybian, and Post Marian units. I get equites extradoriarii fairly quickly in Arpi & Capua, and I'm even role playing but delaying my conquests & giving the AI money.
btw, who is internautus?

with polibian you can train the eqvites extraordinares, once marian hits say bye bye... well actually it will be YOU who killed all the nobles who fill the ranks of ur eqvites extraordinares... too bad engine limits does not allow to portray the HUGE civil war. But still it will be YOUR fault in ur campain.

Do we still get to keep our Camillian MICs?

Tarkus, you need to upgrade Roma city's military facilities to the max and then you'll get them. Only Roma, maybe a couple more cities in Italia proper offer them. They are a luxury and very expensive but after years of playing the Total War games I have gotten pretty good at managing the economy so I have the cash.

It's a Latin name I coined myself. An internautus would be somebody who travels or surfs the Internet, I guess.
