Hi all,
I was playing a round of Europa Barbarorum, particularly the Karthadastim campaign, in which I was planning on wiping the word Romani off the face of the world in order to make the world speak Punic and I have noticed that I cannot build certain units in some of my most upgraded provinces. I am using EB v1.0 and in the campaign, even when I cheated to give myself as much money as possible to build the best barracks, I am still only given certain units. Like in Kart-Hadast, I cheated and built the best barracks and I was only given access to some of the units, but no Iberian Assault infantry, Liby-Phoenician Heavy Infantry, some of the elephants, some of the siege units, or Sacred Band. I am by no means a cheater and I did not use the cheat codes for regular gameplay and only for testing purposes.

The same applies for the city of Lilibeo on Sicily where I built the best barracks and the only additional unit I was able to build were Elite Afrikan Pikemen. No Elite Afrikan Infantry, or Liby-Phoenician Heavy Infantry, cavalry wings, siege weapons, or Iberian Assualt Infantry. I have also encountered other problems in the multi-player/custom games where I am unable to build certain Karthadastim units like the Sacred Band Cavalry, Iberian Assualt Infantry, and such. Additionally in the multi-player, I cannot build artillery or siege weapons for *any* of the factions and as far as I can tell, none of the core units for the Romani; none of the principes, hastati, cohorts, imperial guard cohorts, Romani praetorian guard cavalry, triarii, and just a whole bunch of other units. I have not checked the other factions, but I suspect that there maybe many more units that are missing.

Please help a crazed fanatical Karthadastim general who hates the Numidians with a passion, wishes nothing more than to consolidate his position in the Mediterranean, wipe the Romani from the face of the world, and make the everyone speak Punic! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

You need to achieve reforms in order to get the other units, the Picked Liby-Phoenicians are not in 1.0 though. Check the FAQ for the reform requirements.

So there is no more liby-phonecian heavy infantry?

Why?

Why?

They are still there I thought he was talking abut the L-P Elite recently posted in the Development Art thread.

And quite important IMHO,

What about more diverse mercenaries, especially in Sicily?

During the first Punic war, we know that Carthaginian armies encompassed:
- Celtic mercenaries : with the present system, it would require the player to conquer Massilia. But Carthage had access to Celtic soldiers in large quantities from Sicily and Africa.
- Local Elymean light troops : we also know that Carthage recruited the local "Sicilian" troops, i.e. Elymeans, as light troops. As of now, they don't exist in the system. That makes me think that Lilibeo should be a type 2 gov, with regional barracks providing Elymean light troops.

Just my 2 cent on Carthage...

1. Carthage needs to hit the reforms before you can get the elite units

2. In Custom Battles/Multiplayer, the EDU is kinda defective for custom battles. You have to swap a separate "custom battle"-units edu if you want to play custom because none of the factions will have their native troops.

You can get akontistai at lilibeo - would these count as elymaian light infantry?

So then tell me all, when do I get the reforms and when do the reforms happen for the Karthadastim? I think I checked also and I can build Akontistai when I build the militia mercenary barracks. I can build them almost anywhere in Sicily and on Sardinia (Alalia) as well as Corsica (Karali). May I also ask when the Marius reforms happen? I would like to know when the Romani get their specialist troops so that I can set an estimable time table to which I may know when the Romani can field their threatening Legions on the battlefield.

In some previous version that had a different merc system I always had one FM going on fishing trips to southern Gaul to recruit mercs. I guess Sicily has or should have some Gallic mercs in the pool.

There are even Massilotes Hoplitai to hire in Sicily.

Hmmm ... these mercenaries do add a whole new perspective to the battlefields of the Ancient world. Any suggestions as to what are the Karthadastim's most ferocious military combinations could be to fuel an unstoppable war machine? I mean what army variations would work well with both the Karthadastim's standard military arsenal and mercenary recruitment pools?
